Hi all. Just checking in. I didn't get to share my 2 year surgiversary with you because I was away without the net for a while but thought I would update my progress now. It's been 2 year 3 months since my gastric bypass and I've lost 16 stone 11 lbs. I aimed for a 200lb loss but I'm pleased to now be a healthy weight with a bmi of 23.8 (it was 66). I am still losing through regular exercise so have to be careful to eat right or it will fall off and I don't think I need to lose any more. I think without my loose skin I would be about 7lb lighter and I'm starting to look a bit bony on the bits without it.
I would recommend weight loss surgery, it certainly has bits that are not good, the loose skin, life long diet restrictions and I had a problem with alcohol post op too so I recommend watching what you drink after as it is easy to replace food for something else so I don't drink at all now but it has given me so much else. I couldn't walk and was practically house bound, I was so unhappy and hadn't been in a relationship for 11 years. Now I'm constantly busy, get to see friends all the time, can run and go to the gym as much as I like, have met a wonderful man who treats me with respect because I respect myself and he is completely understanding and patient with my body hang ups which makes me more accepting of them. I've also gone from a size 36 to a size 8. I'm happy for the first time in as long as I can remember. The biggest problem is I have a serious shopping habit now lol.
My advice is to work very hard with your gift, never get complacent and eat as well as a balanced diet as possible with the concentration on protein. I'm deficient in folic acid but other that doing ok, but I always take my vitamins. Enjoy all the things WLS can give back to you if you work with it
