A couple of questions for members who've had tummy tucks...

Hi!

As my TT date is getting closer, lots of funny little things are going round in my head. Maybe some of you that have had TTs can help me out...

Firstly, how much did the excess skin removed weigh? (I know everyone's different but hearing from a bunch of people could give a general idea).

Secondly, has a tighter tummy made you get full more easily? I ask this because I honestly think that having excess tummy skin makes it more comfortable to eat more than my body requires. Has this been true for anyone? Do you find yourself needing to eat smaller portions than before the op because your abdominal wall is no longer slack? Or maybe you did temporarily have a smaller appetite but have now gone back to normal.

Lastly, did anyone lose more weight after the op and manage to keep it off?

Thanks everyone. :)

Sure can't Emma! So excited!

I weigh 9.5 st now and I'm a size 10 (5ft 3"). Seems hard to believe when I let my belly drop out over my pjs tho doesn't it?

It's like 'the thing' escaping! Haha!

I weighed 15st after my first child. Was never overweight before. in fact I was a bit of a gym buff. Had a solid abdominal wall. Just goes to show how cruel nature can be to some of us.

So are you looking into a TT yourself then?

I would be interested in finding out how your TT goes PP, as when I managed to lose my excess weight I would like one too. I have a horrible tummy (think they call it an apron) and I hate it so much - legacy of having 3 kids and putting on too much weight each time I suppose. Are you having yours on the NHS or are you paying private?

Hi,

my answers are probably not terribly useful! but here goes-

1- I don't know how much the skin weighed, they didn't tell me, and I couldn't tell by weighing myself after as I'd also gained a couple of bits of silicone in the same op!

2- It made no difference to my stomach capacity-pretty sure that will go for everyone!

3- Gained and lost a bit in the time since the op, but currently about half a stone less, aiming for another half before my birthday, when I'm buying a new wardrobe :)

hi poppy
1. they removed 7 pounds in skin and fat tissue from my tummy

2. a tummy tuck makes no difference to the amount of food that can be eaten.

3. ive lost no more weight since my t/t

Thanks guys. That's really helpful.

I had wondered about the appetite because although I always stop eating when I'm comfortably satisfied, I can often eat more than my hubby at a sitting. Also, after most dinners my tummy makes me look like I'm pregnant. Hence I wondered if I will get fuller quicker with my abdominal wall tightened back up. Some post-op TT American women in another forum commented on this being the case for them but that it might have been to do with the anaesthetic.

Did you guys have your abdominal wall tightened as well as skin and fat removal?

Thanks :)

Hi Emma,

You should definitely look into it hun. I would suggest finding out your PCT's criteria. They should have their plastic surgery policy up on the web in PDF format.

Try googling 'the name of your local authority + PCT + abdominoplasty'

The document should have a title that goes something like... Policy for low priority procedures and thresholds

Where it tells you the URL below the link and descripstion, make sure it belongs to your local authority. For example, mine reads...
www.norfolk.nhs.uk/resources/pdf/polproc/lowpriorityproceduresandthresholds.pdf

You can opt to read it as html if you don't have a PDF reader. It's a long document. I would suggest using your browser's 'Find' tool under the 'Edit' menu and running a search for 'abdominoplasty'.

Many PCTs use a similar policy but they can differ. For example, mine has no policy in place for breast lifts meaning they don't fund them. But others do have criteria for it that I would fit into.

My PCT policy for abdominoplasty goes as follows...

It is classed as a low priority procedure and is not normally funded but the following exceptions are considered...

Where the recorded weight loss is at least 10 points on the Body Mass Index that has led to redundant skin and the current BMI is <26 and the weight loss has been maintained for at least 2 years.

Some PCTs only want you to maintain for 6 months so you really should look into the policy for your own area.

Good luck hun! My excess skin has been the bane of my life since my early 20s so I know exactly how you feel. Wishing you all the best and keeping my fingers crossed for you. :)
xx
