What if I screw up my anatomy?
And when I am 60 years old and something bad happens because of the decision I made today.
Has anyone ever felt this before?
I wouldn't worry too much you will do yourself more harm then good. Try and concentrate on the positives. There are people much older then 60 who've had the bypass and they had surgery when it was in its early stages of development and dare I say practise. X
my grandad had a sleeve done at 65 hun, do not worry everything will be great and you will feel great and will be much healthier and live longer for having it done x good luck hun xx
What if you don't? And keep gaining weight? And develop diabetes? And high blood pressure? And sleep apnoea?
Look on the positive side, this surgery is here to help us have healthier and happier lives - it's not just about fitting into a size 10 (can't imagine that ever happening to me anyway lol)!
I had a heart attack at 44 and I know damn well that if I didn't have my bypass a couple of weeks ago I know for sure I would be on the list for at least another one and probably a few strokes too, not to mention the diabetes I already have and the arthritic knees.
i had no health problems prior to surgery apart from being overweight of course. this made me even more determined to have surgery to avoid what could happen in the future now im 6 months post op and im loving every minute of my new lease of life
I understand where you are coming but has Minxie said if you carry on the way you are? I am just turned 54 and want to live to see my grandchildren grow and marry, I have so much to live for. But if I stay 33stone the one sure thing is I will not be here much longer, so I think if you have been offered or meet the criteria you should go for it. (((hugs)))
You guys are right...
I'm on 2 meds for blood pressure , have sleep apnea and I hurt all the time. And I'm 37.
I guess I'm just listening to all the negative feed back and not my heart.
You all are awesome!!! Thanks so much.
I have had the same worry. I guess with me its the being a relatively healthy fatty. Worrying I might end up in hospital and my hair and teeth falling out (this has actually happened to a lovely lady I know)
But I do see that without surgery I will end up and very unhealthy fatty. So I have weighed up the pros and cons and know the chances are my bypass wiill go well, I will end up a lot slimmer and healthier and my life in one aspect will be transformed
I think it is positive for both sides of the journey to be discussed. As it isnt always a clear cut thing. So thank you
I know that if I don't have this op my lifespan is going to be cut short. Like many of you I would like to see my children grow up and get married and have babies.
I know the road ahead is not going to be an easy one. I have 3 comorbidities and I do worry that something will go wrong. Thankfully I have the strong support of my family and of course this site
LET ME TELL YOU MY STORY!!!!!!!!!!!!
i had the opp Feb 2010 age 54 (sleeve) then i got down to my goal weight by sept 2010 feeling great could have done cartwheels. then in Nov 2010 i was diagnosed with PMR (please look up "polymyalgia rheumatica") , the only treatment for that is high dose steroids ( yes the type that makes you put weight on) after one year i have stabilised myself at 13st. next week i start a low dose chemo.
i can tolerate all these drugs, but i couldn't have coped with all this at my previous weight.
so go for it is what i say!!!!!
