A simple/ silly question

Ok.... not that I'm an alcoholic or a lush, but I do like the occassional tipple.... brandy and coke being my drink of choice.

Even as I think it, it feels like a ridiculous question, in the grand scheme of things, because I'd rather be slim that have a brany and coke BUT...........Can alcohol be consumed after a bypass?

Curious mind just wondered

im not exactly sure luv but i think eventually you can but in moderation! i dont think you can have fizzy drinks though. xxx

Fizzy drinks are a no no although a bit later out you may get away with it, but it isn't really recommended, I have always been a complete light weight drinker and the only drink i like is cherry Lambrini, where as a large bottle and a half would have me pickled before 2 glasses and Im anyones Now, so you will be a much cheaper date in the future!!

My surgeon advised that i didn't drink for four months and then in moderation.
I'm not a regular drinker, i can go for a couple of months without one , but then when i have a girls night out i get shamefully drunk !
I was always a vodka and coke drinker but a friend of mine whos had a bypass once got served a full sugar coke and didn't realise and she passed out. I tried it once in a bar and when i checked with the barman he too had given me full sugar, despite me asking for diet - so now i just drink vodkae and fresh orange.
Also i get frustrated with having to whisk the fizz out of carbonated drinks, so its easier for me to stick to orange, but many of my friends have flat diet coke with their drinks.
as others have said, i get drunk very easily now - i really feel the first drink !

I am a naughty girl.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I do like the odd tipple especially when socialising.:eek: I have drank wine, about 4 glasses in one evening, but it gave me very bad runs and made me feel unpleasant, so stopped that.

I now have vodka and orange and I am fine. Dont get me wrong it isnt on a regular basis, but socially which I would say about once ever 3 weeks and I can have about 3/4 vodkas, I dont need much more to make me tipsy, so I would then go onto water.

I am still alive. I think they dont like you drinking because it is empty calories and we are having this op to lose weight. Also some people can swap one addiction for another ie alchohol, so that is another reason. Never tried fizzy drinks so dont know anything about that.

Hope that helps.

Some providers say 12 months, this is because this is your optimum time for losing weight. I would say avoid fizzy/carbonated drinks as they are very gassy, if you put helium gas in a balloon what happens? That could possibly be your pouch....

Do as the others do when you have a girlie night out and have a bit of orange in it or something xx

i had half a cranberry and vodka a month ago to celebrate my divorce and got tiddly on it

yes i to asked this question and depending where you are it varies slightly fom 6 months upto a year after surgery for alcohol..... with fizzy drinks eeek i have read that some people cannot even tolerate them so i think thats a hit n miss.... and it can cause your pouch to stretch etc because of the fizz, people have said to leave it to go flat but bleuuugghhhhh id rather do without ;) x

The brandy will be fine (if you don't dump)...it's the coke that's the no no!

Thanks everyone. I'd rather be slim(ish) than have a brandy... but I just wondered. and yep... a drop without the coke is coool!

hi i think the general rule as far as alcohol goes is to wait 12months. but you can never have fizzy drinks they will stretch your pouch making it less effective xx
