Adhesions

I had a tummy tuck 7 years ago and (doctors think) have adhesions along my scar, sticking to the outside of my abdominal wall. All very painful though I have learned to manage it now. Does anyone have any experience of having WLS with existing adhesions?

I don't have experience but due to having had a machete job gall bladder removal 20 years or so ago I was advised they 'may' have to do a sleeve instead of a bypass.

I am due to have a sleeve on the 2nd May and have a lot of adhesions from previous emergency surgery which are very painful. I'm hoping the surgeon is going to release as many of them as he can whilst he is in there but am aware that I may also develop more as a result of the sleeve. I know it will take a while for everything to settle down so I won't be able to tell for a while if the pain has reduced.

I had adhesions which they found when they went in to do a bypass. Hence I ended up with a sleeve. I didn't know I had them but suffered with what I assumed was IBS which was obviously down to the adhesions as I now have no IBS symptoms at all. My surgeon freed all the adhesions during the op x

I had pyloric stenosis when I was a month old and had a big op (which they messed up incidentally) to fix it. When I saw my surgeon he said it would just be a case of freeing the adhesions before he could continue to do the sleeve. As the cut pulls my stomach in, it makes me look like I have rolls of fat, I'm looking forward to him freeing it up so I have a flat (but fat - for now!) stomach.

Hope that made sense x

They found I had adhesions (probably due to recurrent infections) during my bypass op, it meant it was more than double the length of time it should have been. But I still had the bypass, and a textbook recovery.

i had adhesions and was bypassed they found them at time of op all from other surgeries

Hi there...I'm in limbo because of this problem!!! 10 years ago now I had a huge op to remove most of the right hand side of my bowel due to a tumour in my colon. I have a huge scar from under my boobs to under belly button. When I went to see surgeon about sleeve he said he was concerned that I may have to many adhesions, and it may not be possible to operate so he sent me for a CT Scan. I was under the impression that this would show anything which may get in his way, but when I went to the next appointment he said he wanted to do a endoscopy too.

Now I know I sound like a baby but I can't have a camera down my
throat (it's bad enough that I have to go every 2 years to have one up my other end!!). Anyway he's said now that he will have me in for the op but before he goes in he will do the endoscopy whilst I'm out and that if there are adhesions he will have to pull out!

It's a weird feeling now because I'm so excited/nervous about the sleeve and keep thinking what if he can't do it!!! Wish I'd been brave now and had the bloody camera but still...

What do you all think about it? Reackon we'll be OK to go ahead, adhesions or no adhesions??

Xx

Well - I had lots of adhesions on my bowel and I still had my sleeve. Mine had been there due to a bowel malformation rather than a previous op though so not sure. But they don't actually cut into the bowel for a sleeve so I don't see why not. Obviously it depends on what your surgeon is prepared to do x

I think the complication is that my tumour was attached to the very bottom of my stomach so a tiny slice was removed. Have been doing some reading about it and I've convinced myself it will be OK.

Just wish the time would hurry up and pass now so I can get going! Xx

I had my sleeve on the 2nd, surgeon managed to release as many adhesions as he could but couldn't do them all. It did mean surgery was over twice as long as normal and I have a few more wounds but all worth it if it reduces the pain I was having from them.
