I went for my appointment today to see Mr Sigurdson , he was lovely so I paid my deposit and all ready to go. When I left i had been booked in for 25th august. On the way home i got a message from sarah to say that they could not do the 25 so ive got to speak to her tomorrow.
Ok so this is where the problem is: i have a cruise booked for 11 days in october. As i cant have the band on the 25th the only date i can do is three weeks before the cruise. This means i would be on mushy food for the first seven days.
Im really keen to just go ahead and get it done but not sure if it is a good idea to travel on a boat for eleven days three weeks after surgery. My lovely mom has paid for this trip and would hate to ruin it for her.
So basically what im asking is: should i have it before or after ??

Many thanks:sigh:

hi there I'd be inclined to go on cruise and have op later, that way you can enjoy without worrying. If me I'd be concerned being at sea so soon after op and the motion can make you really ill for a short time, possibly not best thing for gastric band so soon after surgery. Hope doesn't sound too gloomy but I'd err on side of caution and have worry free hols!! Txx

Ps. I'm being banded by Dr Siggurdsson on 3/8. I'll let you know how it goes.

I am being banded on Friday, we have a huge huge party the following week... we are hosting it, will have 6 house guests for about a week and then 80 odd people at the party and I will be 6 days post op when they arrive and about 8 days post op for actual party..... I would wait if I were you... enjoy the cruise and then go for a day three weeks after end of holiday then you have time to cut down before following pre op diet....wish I had thought more about dates but thats how it rolls and I think well hey the party pics will be my "before" shots for when I am lighter 12 months from now:) also being banded by Mr S at Dolan Park :)

I put my op back because I went on a cruise back in May, they offered me the exact date I was away, so I asked if they would move it back and they did. I am glad I waited now .

Thanks everyone, ive decided to go on the cruise and chill out and then have the band when i get home. This cruise was booked before the band was thought of so im going to go with it.
Ill be really interested to hear how everyone gets on with their op at dolan park xxx

Op was yesterday and Dolan Park was wonderful, staff are amazingly kind and so lovely. You will he fine :) definitely good decision about your cruise too :) x

Hi, I would say go for it. I am 3 weeks post op and I feel absolutely fine. Exactly as I did before the op. In fact I do not even feel I have a band lol :)
As for being on mushies I can eat tons of different things, cereal, tuna, fish, mash, veg, yogurt, juice, chilli, shepards pie, mousse... honestly the only things I am avoiding are pasta and bread. I can even eat crackers with soft cheese and it is not a problem.
It is up to you but if it was me I would go ahead before hand and get the ball rolling.
Good luck and hope you have a wonderful holiday :)

PS Mine was at Dolan park 3 weeks ago today :) Got on great there. Wonderful staff, clean comfortable rooms, wonderful surgeon I cannot fault them.
