Hi Everyone. Luckily i have stumbled on this site. I am considering gastric bypass but see some of you have had the sleeve which i have never heard off. Which do you think works better? I think the sleeve is cheaper and i am funding myself so that would be good if it works just as well if not better than the bypass. Look foward to hearing from anyone who can give me some advice.
Thanksx

Hi there - I had a Gastric Sleeve on 23rd August at the Chelsea & Westminster - nearly 7 weeks in I know this was the right decision for me. I think what is important is to read through all the documentation the hospital has given you and talk to the Bariatric specialists to confirm which operation(s) would be best for you based on the type of eater and person you are. Having done this myself we jointly came to the conclusion that a sleeve or bypass would be good for me and, in the end, I chose the sleeve because it involved a bit less surgery and fewer post operative tablets/vitamins. I'm sure if you are self funding it must be difficult not to Focus on the financials but this is a life changing decision you are making and you need to be confident that you re getting it right. :))

Hi
I think it depends on what your eating habits are as to which suits you best. Some people also take into account the bypass is said to work best for diabetics. For most a discussion with the surgeon will lead you to the best op for you.

Hey Tiggery, Wobbly is right, it really depends on your eating habits, i was intent on having a bypass, but ended up with a sleeve, and im so glad i did. I can eat anything but only in small amounts. With the bypass, the chances are you will dump if you eat sugar and/or fat. There are some great threads on here, so have a good look around and do plenty of research. I went with Cosmetic Bliss for mine, which is in the czech republic, an amazing surgeon, great company, and so much cheaper. Good luck :) x

How long would i need to take off work in total do you think? Its it dramatically reduces the hunger hormone, i am always hungry so this would be great for me x

it depends what you do really, if you're heavy lifting then about 6 weeks, but if you're sitting at a desk, much sooner xx
