Sorry for the spelling lol.
I'm 5 months out and was just wondering if anyone has tried a drink yet.
I'm going to a hen weekend in July and wedding in September I'm not worried if I don't I was just wondering really ...
Thanks xxx

I am teetotal soperhaps not the best person to comment but I have read that the body absorbs it faster if you are a bypasser and so even one small drink can take you over the limit if breatherlised than you would normally expect.

I have to say that since my bypass I have totally went off my alcohol and I was quite partial to a wee cheeky glass of wine!!! I think now when I have one glass I can feel the effects straight away and I don't like the feeling of being out of control so quickly. Maybe I just need more practice lol.

Anyway can only advise to have a wee practice in your house first to see how your body copes with it. Good luck x

My nurse, whos had a bypass says that she can have a couple of tots of vodka, but after a glass of wine shes anybodys!!

Best practice at home first! lol

Hi Hun . . . I drink most weekends, nowhere as much as when I was pre-op, just a few steady glasses of wine over the course of the night (must to the consternation of some). As Penelope has pointed out, be very careful with your alcohol levels if you intend to drive – in fact I adopt a zero alcohol level – that is to say if I have a drink (even one) I won’t drive (not that I did pre-op). As for it going straight to your head – this I think is a canard – yes it does go straight in to your blood and you will get pi**ed quicker but it is unlikely you will be rolling around like a ‘character from Shameless’ . . . you do feel the effects quicker but it also wears off much quicker . . . the only real caveat I would issue to enjoying a social drink post-op is that whatever the alcohol is it is empty calories . . . xxx

It's the munchies after a few drinks I'm worried about ! Throwing caution to the wind and getting stuck into sweet and sour pork balls - eeek - that's my nightmare - forgetting I have the band - is that possible?

I stuck to the letter of the law. No drinky poos for 12 months for me.

Now, nearly 2 years out, 2 pints of lager is enough to get me tipsy. Wine, jeez, that's the killer for me! 1 glass and I can feel it

Lol in my case half a small glass of red and I'm gone... Can't drink White wine seem to have mild dumping I know strange ... Vodka can have one maybe two depends if I'm out for 3 hours or six xxx

Well I'm kinda glad that I won't be having the horrors of a hangover to cope with if your posts are anything to go by. Good

I havent had the do's and don'ts diet sheet from the dietician yet, so not certain how I'll go about drinking.

Must say I do enjoy a glass or two pre-op though!!
