Hi all. I'm all booked in for a VSG at Nuffield Leeds with THG ON 29 April. Surgeon is Ian Halstead. Anyone got any experience on on either him or THG?

Very excited!!! Just want to get on with it now!! :)

Louise

Thanks Clare. Been up since the crack of dawn. Can't sleep cos I keep thinking about it all. Everyone seems really positive on here though so figure I might need to share everything here as my family think I'm a bit mad for going down this road and I need positive supportive people not judgemental ones at the mo x

Hi Louise,

It will come round so quickly.
My husband was against me having the surgery - he came with me to see the surgeon and was quizzing everything he said (so embarrassing ) - now 5 months down the line and almost 6 stone loss he has done a complete 180 and really pleased I did it lol!
I only told my parents and best friend who were all great about it. My parents were worried where I would be in 5-10 years if I kept putting weight on.
They'll come round but you concentrate on you and remember why you made this decision x

Don't worry, you'll get everything you need here....like minded peeps, before during & after....unfortunately no one else fully understands or accepts unless they've travelled your journey or similar xx

I'm not worried so much by the surgery or the recovery. The silly thing I am worried about is how will I know I am getting enough protein. I'm a tired person anyway and haven't got a lot of time to be even tireder (if that's a word......) xx

It's always the silly thing that causes us the niggle, realistically immediately post-op you may not on some days....but that's why your supplements are so important.
You build yourself back up & always take protein option 1st & of course follow high protein diet :)
Try not to over think each stage before your even in it or you will worry more, pre op, fluids, puree, etc....relax, embrace & in a weird way, thoroughly enjoy every minute of taking control back of your life & the role that foods plays in it xx

Thanks Clare. Feel a bit more reassured now. I'm always 5 steps ahead of myself!! Will just get myself through the op first. Will I be told what vits to get? Are the chewable ones easy to come by? I've read about people getting fortimel on prescription. Is this necessary or will slim fast do the job?sorry for all the questions xx

Everyone is diff, I couldn't stomach shakes post op hun, made me sick as dog...I had soya lattes, horlics lite, soup, etc....but again Providers post op care & diets are all different!
Chewable calcium tabs from Drs, chewable multivits from supermarket & Holland n Barrat do full range of melt on tongue vits xx

As others have said you're provider will give you a list of foods for post op. X

Whoops! I mean James not Ian lol! Ian Halstead was a lad I went to school with 30 years ago lol

My provider is THG and they gave me a booklet when I met the surgeon which had food lists in. I think I am just anxious. I'm sure when I get to that point it will all fall into place.

Good luck Geordie lass. You're just the week before me. Please keep in touch and tell me how it all went. Are you in for 2 or 3 nights? They've told me 3 x

Thanks Louise, I will keep you posted. Shame we are not in the same week! I am in for 3 nights. Have to arrive 1 night before the op and a further 2 nights following the op. I am getting the train down to Leeds and back once discharged. Have you got a pre assessment date booked in? I've not had one yet but it was mentioned in my admission letter that I received from the Nuffield. M x

Nobody mentioned a pre assessment..... But then I haven't had an admission letter either. I only booked it last Thursday. I drove to the Leeds clinic to meet mr Halstead and also my patient care coordinator but any follow ups will be done in Manchester as I live near Preston. I too am travelling up for my op by train but very apprehensive about coming home on the train. Are you not worried about that? X
