Sorry to be gross guys, just got home after my bypass, had my 1st pooh,it's full of black tar like pooh,is this normal?

Erm, could be residual blood if you bled a lot during your op. From memory this bit took a while to settle! Have to stress, if you're even the slightest bit worried phone your bariatric team quick. Well done, btw - hope all goes well xx

Well the lady in the bed next to me didn't quite make it to loo what a mess and thats what she had, the nurse said it happens sometimes just some bodies are different at least younot constipated xx

In hospital I "thought" I'd just passed wind. Nope. Cr*p everywhere. So embarrassing.

Im sure it is normal but as wibble says any concern give ur team a call. xx

ohh PS. hope you have a speedy recovery. take care. xx

Sounds like something called melaena stool, black tar is exactly how it is described in the text books! I would not worry too much about it the first couple of times you go to the loo post op but if it continues that would suggest you are still bleeding somewhere and need to talk to your surgeon.

My first night at home, husband sleeping in the spare room,I'm actually sleeping on a towel just in case something happens in the night and I can't get to the toilet in time, mind you after yesterday don't think there's much in there.the things we talk about.I suppose it's good to be prepared,I was a little worried as my blood count kept dropping, kept thinking where is the blood going too.think I may have my answer.

Let's face it - we've had our guts/stomachs rearranged. It's probably going to happen! The nurses have seen it all before and are most probably expecting it. It's just excruciatingly embarrassing for those it happens to. I was absolutely mortified until my hubby started telling me how he was desperately trying to clean me and the chair, bed, floor, etc., up, gave up and stuck me in the shower while he called for help! I had to laugh, although it's really not funny at the time!

hope u feeling better now xxx

Interesting reading. I guess by that time your inners would consist of mushed food with the liver diet and residual blood from the operation itself. Better out than in as they say.
