Charmaine you're definately doing something right though 40lb weightloss and 8lbs over Xmas, I'd be jumping for joy.
Seriously though just draw a line underneath what you've done recently and start again. Treat it as a new beginning and just eat when you feel hungry/meal times. You know you can do it, look what you've already done.

Hi Charmaine, you have done brilliantly to lose 40lbs and especially 8lb over Christmas - I bet people who have had the op didn't lose that amount - I know I didn't so pat yourself on the back. I think as you have lost weight you are worrying about putting it back on so you are noticing everything you are eating. I wouldn't worry about having all the stuff you know you won't be able to eat after the op - I had the op a year ago and I can eat everything that I could before - just smaller amounts, I don't dump on sugar or fat and have a little bit of what I want if I want it badly enough (as a normal weight person would), but I do exercise afterwards so that I balance it out. If you feel that your appetite is getting out of control then you could try bringing in more protein and less carbs as the body turns carbs into sugar which then stimulates your appetite. Recent scientific research has also proven that protein fills us up for longer thus reducing the need to snack. You seem to be doing everything right though so carry on what you are doing.

You've done really well Charmaine so don't start beating yourself up. As Stella says, you WILL be able to eat most things, just in smaller portions, so don't worry about that.

How are you doing on your fluids? Could you try drinking more water or NAS squash? It can keep you occupied, in more ways than one...:D, and will help flush things through too.

Keep up the good work. xx
