Another newbie introducing myself

Hi, I have been wandering around this forum for a few weeks now and have finally registered. Some great advise on here and obviously a lot of support going around. I was banded in Glasgow on 28 March and so far have had no real issues at all. A bit sore still around my tummy but nothing that needs any pain killers. Two things that are difficult to deal with are the awful wind that I have ( does this ever go away?) and the fact that I am not to drink when I eat, other than these, everything is fine. I am eating much less than I was and I have lost some weight which is great. I get my first fill on 2 May, looking forward to this although to be honest I seem to have restriction already. I haven't told anyone except my husband that I have a band, I did not want to be judged. I am looking forward to my journey and feeling in control. Hopefully I will be thin and healthy again soon.

Welcome Penny pitstop and congrats on having your procedure already. I'm one-week post-op today, having had a RNY Gastric Bypass.

Well done on not telling loads of people, my immediate family know and a close friend. I told another close friend yesterday and her response was "if I'd known sooner, I'd have told you not to".

That's what annoys me most - everyone has their opinion about my surgery. That's just it - it's my surgery and my body and my decision, nobody else's. I'm not telling anyone else.

All the best for a new, slimmer you. x

Welcome Penny Pitstop. I agree with Big Dave, why do you want to tell everyone just to be the centre of their gossip or for anyone to give you advice when they are not qualified. I had a sleeve 5 months ago and only my other half knows, my adult children or any other family members or friends do not. Don't get me wrong if it is your nature to,share everything go,ahead, but everyone is supportive of me on my diet and giving me encouragement, what else do you need, it's your business and no one else's.

Hi,

Welcome aboard!

I'm deciding at the minute whether to tell people or not, and what I'm going to say if I don't tell them - if they notice I've lost anything that is! What are you going to tell people if they ask how you've lost weight? x

Hi Dave I'm doing ok no pain which is fab, getting stitches out tomorrow.
I don't feel much restriction to be honest. I'm having a Muller light, strained soups, milk, and innocent juices. Got nesquik for milkshakes but haven't tried it yet. Had lovely Asda red Thai soup last night just strained it, put it in a mug that was dinner. I hope I'm doing the right things! What's in your cupboard?? Xxx

I'm so glad your experiences are similar to mine!

I'm following the liquids diet from the hospital, which goes like this -

Breakfast - 200ml high protein milk

Snack - 200ml fruit juice or tea/coffee

Lunch - 200ml smooth soup, no pieces. 200ml high protein milk

Snack - 200ml fruit juice or 200ml high protein milk

Dinner - 200ml soup or 200ml high protein milk

Snack - 200ml high protein milk or 200ml fruit smoothie

Where did you have your surgery?

It's very restrictive, but all completely liquid, so I guess that's why I've got no restriction - everything I'm having at the moment is just passing straight through the pouch. I understand restriction kicks in with puréed foods and more so when we move on to soft diet then normal diet. I sure hope so.

I had some New Covent Garden Soup Co. "British chicken with butter and black pepper" soup for dinner last night. It was quite delicious. I can't wait to move on to puréed food on Sunday!

My pain has been minimal, but I've got horrendous back pain today, which is odd. My staples are also removed tomorrow morning.

David..x

post op diet

Dave I have to do liquid for 4 weeks so I guess every hospital is different. I had my surgery at PRUH Bromley. I'm going to try that soup! Every night I dream that I have eaten something I'm not allowed lol xx

Hi MrsDuck. I just think the same as The Old Woman, it is no one else's business and why would I want to be the topic of gossip for others. I am watching what I eat and counting calories so therefore I am telling no lies when I say just that. Its the not being hungry that is the greatest thing for me. :):):) Big Dave D, I am sure, like me, you did not make the decision to have surgery lightly, it is our decision, no one else's. Here's to us all being healthier and living longer.

Hi to everyone.

I had my consultation on Monday and am booked in for a Gastric Band on 17th May.
I have a low BMI of 31 at the moment, but have been as high as 42 and as low as 24. I have never maintained any weight for any period of time. I haven't taken the decision to have WLS lightly and really feel it's the answer for me.

I was doing ok and feeling positive, but then fell upon a review site for THG. Now I'm terrified.
