[ICE HOCKEY]

Hi

I was given the name of this site by someone at the Hospital.

At the moment I have just finished my tests to enable me to have either a gastric band or bypass. Does anyone know how long it take for funding to be agreed?

All PCTs are different as are waiting times, referrals and funding issues.
Not much help Im afraid but which PCT are you with ? Someone may be in the same PCT and be able to give you a bit more info

I live in Oldham and am attending Salford Royal Hospital.
My GP reffered me in June 09 and the Consultant agreed to Surgery at my 1st appointment.
I surpose I am like most people on here not a very patient patient and now can't wait to get things moving.

Having scanned the site there have been some amazing results, well done everyone. xx

Hi Ice Hockey and welcome to Mini's

I was done at Salford Royal. However I fall under Manchester PCT.

I assume you met first with Dr's New/Syed who would have requested funding at the same time they referred you to the surgeon. A suggestion would be to check with Salford Royal whether and when an application for funding was put in. Enquire from the secretary for the doctors. Then ring up your PCT to get the skinny on how they operate. The above depends on whether your pct follows a protocol similar to Manchester.

One thing that frustrated my process at the begining was that Salford were insisting that funding be in place before patients could be seen by the Consultants or referred to the surgeon. It was sorted eventually. It's worth checking if this applies to Oldham PCT too. You never know, you might be pleasantly surprised to learn that funding is already in place.

Note however that getting funding and actually getting the surgery can be poles apart. I got my funding within a week of Salford sending the application. That was in early January 2009. My surgery was on 3 August 09. However I believe it was affected by a backlog of cases, which I believe the hospital is tackling.
