Any info on Mr Botha and St Thomass hospitail??

He is my referring surgeon, but he didn't actually do my operation.

He seems to be ok on the whole though...

Well I actually choose to go to Guys for my operation, due to its location next to London Bridge railway station.

But they switched me to their sister hopsital St Thomas' and Mr Botha's care.

If you mean a profile picture I think you will have to get to 50 posts to unlock your full profile and the rest of the forum.

The word games are good for this :)

I am sure someone else would have come along and helped soon :)

Mr Botha did my bypass at St Thomas' in January this year. Is there anything in particular you want to know? He is a very skilled surgeon and everyone who works with him can't speak highly enough of him - a nurse during my recovery described him as "a god" and he was certainly treated like one on ward rounds and clinics!

Hi Dinda. How was it ? How long did you stay in hpspitall? Did You Stay at st Thomas's ? And how are you managing now? X

My op was on a Monday and I was discharged on Thursday. The operation went well, I had an unexpected bleed during surgery which was sorted without any problems due to his expertise. I didn't enjoy the hospital stay, but the view was lovely!
I saved all my drama for the op (bleed, then seizure coming out of anaesthetic - all dealt with well) the rest of it has been a breeze!
I have had no problems at all, healed wonderfully. Been discharged from the team and dietician unless I need them at some point in the future. Getting to grips with my pouch and new life has been good, everyone will have ups and downs!

Not really scales driven at present but on my last count I'd lost 9.5 stone. Feeling happier, healthier and more confident.

Yes, I was in St Thomas'. Would have had to pay a fortune for the view of the Thames and Parliament !

I was referred to Mr Botha at St Thomas, and I saw him when I was referred and he arranged for all the pre op investigations. However his waiting list was so long that a few weeks ago a whole load of us on the waiting list were referred into the private sector so someone else did my op. In my opinion the nursing care at St Thomas was much better than the nursing care I got in the private hospital (I had a different op in St Thomas' earlier this year.)
When I met Mr Botha he seemed very nice.

When I had my op too they moved a lot of people into a private hospital in London Bridge too. St Thomas' is a very busy hospital and getting theatre time is apparently difficult, hence the waiting list issue. My op was due on 5th Dec but there was an emergency op in the morning which overran, so mine was quite late in the afternoon but Mr Botha wouldn't have had time to complete it. I was offered a sleeve as it would be quicker but declined and waited for the bypass.

Hi all, I'm having a sleeve, soon hopefully. Just waiting for date. I was told that the list was now short due to ops being moved about before. I'm so excited I'm impatient. Just want to get on and start losing. I have little clothes left and resent buying any new ones this late in the game so to speak. Cannot wait for the hospital stay if only for the view!!! People would pay good Money for big Ben view lol xxx

The time will fly by, when you get the date the wait vanishes from your mind and you get really focused on it. After the date the weight vanishes!

I hope you get a room with a view.

Have you phoned Paula to see where you are on the list and to get a rough estimate? I found calling the team every so often useful - plus I struck it lucky as was given a cancellation, I'm sure it was because we had developed a 'relationship' of sorts.

Great results with the sleeve posted here, it just wasn't for me. You will be fine in the hands of a man with his own Harley St practice!

Good luck x

Paula draws up the waiting/theatre list - or at least she did when I was waiting for my operation. Things might have changed in the last 10 months. Her number at St T's is 020 7188 8875.

Good luck!

Well hi all. Surgery done. Had gastric sleeve on Thursday home by Sunday. Had it done in a private clinic. London independent hospital in stepney green. It's the hospital for embarrassing bodies. Surgery done by mr Marcus reddy. Fantastic guy!! The whole team are great an have looked after me so well. I'm on fluids. Struggling at times but was feeling ok till today. Feel rough as sandpaper hahahah. Rest rest and more rest I guess. Xx

Eight months - wow! Did you meet all the PCT criteria? How come it's done in a private hospital? Was that after going through a year's weight loss group type thing? Anyway, congrats and I hope you recover well :) x

I've had breast cancer and made remission in may. Started my funding request and hospital request in April. Made 3 visits to st.thomas's in London, saw consultant dietiecan and team, then thought I'd not hear anything till new year, but was called last week and asked could I attend a pre op assessment last Saturday for surgery on the following Thursday, i was gob smacked!!! Did have time for the pre op diet as only had 4 days to get my head around it, it was done in the private clinic as they move patients about as to keep lists down. I'm so pleased it's been done this side of Christmas. I feel a bit drained and only on fluids. lost a stone since last Thursday!!!! X
