Anyone Had A Colonoscopy?

I'm due to have one in the next few weeks and am dreading it.

I've spent so much time going between department to department at the hospital. Hopefully the Colonoscopy will give me the answer to the pain I've been in for months now.

ooh poor you. My surgeon fortunately changed his mind and i didn't have to have it, but from what I hear, it's a lot easier to have than the endoscopy (tube down the throat), and the worst bit is really the day before when you're stuck to the loo after drinking the stuff they give you to move your bowels. Try not to be embarrassed. They've seen bums of all shapes and sizes lol.

Yes Ive had one done. It wasnt as bad as I expecting. I went from department to department too before hand.

BUT the surgeon decided to band the piles he found at the same time as I was having mine, with no pain relief, that was a tad uncomfortable.

Good luck and I hope they get to the 'bottom' of your problem - excuse the pun!

I had one when I was having my gallbladder removed. They cleverly decided to give me one at the same time as an endoscopy and I was so concentrating on my throat that they did the colonoscopy without me even realising. It will be fine.

Deffo not as bad as you think it will be,just relax as much as you can.

When I last had one (my second) they had reduced the amount of laxative so it was not so vioent and much easier than the time before. You can watch what they are doing on screen and just remember as someone mentioned earlier a bum is a bum to them whatever the size!

I have had a couple and they are definately not as bad as the ones down your throat.

One tip is your bum can get sore where you are on the loo so much the day before, so put a bit of vasoline on it that will keep the discomfort level down. My GP suggested that the first time I ever had one, and it really did help once I started to use it.

I've had the one down the throat (Endoscopy/ Gastoscopy) 3 time and I don't think much can be worse than that.

I got a infomation pack with the laxative I have to take the day before :sign0131: . One of the tips is the VASALINE . I'll have to go out and buy some, don't think my daughter will let me near her's if she know's what I'm going to use it for lol.
