Hi Farzu, I take Metformin - type 2 diabetes happens when the insulin produced binds with ingested sugar but can't release it to the cells for energy so dumps it in the liver to be converted to fat. Metformin 'unlocks' the sugar from the insulin and releases it to the cells for energy thus it isn't turned into fat. Someone who is fat from diabetes may lose the extra weight when they start converting the sugar properly through Metformin. It didn't happen for me! I haven't had any side effects from Metformin except that, when I started taking it, I couldn't drink. Two glasses of wine would leave me legless. It turned out to be lactic acidosis which can be really dangerous. I reduced the dose myself, monitoring my blood sugar, and now I can drink again. Sorry I don't know anything about the use of Metformin for any other condition.
