Anyone on here 5+ years out? (Sleeve)

And if yes, have you noticed any long term health problems? Any regrets at this stage? Have you managed to maintain your weight loss? Thanks x x :)

Hi Samsara,

I don't think you will find any sleevers on this forum that far out.

When I was doing my research a year or so ago pre-op, I only found some long term sleevers (5 - 7 years post sleeve) on US and Australian forums.

1. This forum itself has not existed that long.

2. The sleeve has been gaining popularity in the UK in the last 5 years, so finding people who had it in the UK 5 years ago is difficult.

If you PM me, I can provide you some info about the overseas long termers I found before my own op.

Out of curiosity / interest, and just to prove (to myself if no one else!) that I hadn't been talking total b*ll*x ;) :D ;), I just scrolled through to the END of this sleeve section of WLS.

The earliest posts are from 2009 -- therefore the longest term sleever here you might find is 4 years post op (altho some of them were writing in their "pre-op" stage and had their ops in 2010 -- and thus only 3 years post op).

Another slight problem is that many people (bypassers and sleevers) stop using the forums once they have reached goal or their "happy" weight, and got back to living their life without bariatric surgery being the thing consuming their thoughts and time ...... and disappear off the forums.

There are a few 2009 / 2010 sleevers who I have occasionally seen posting during 2012 and they include:

Tiarasandtantrums

and
Mixman
http://www.wlsurgery.com/wls-gastric-sleeve/106507-never-knew-crispy-so-good.html

But you looking thru page 28 - 30 of this sleeve section and various other posters from 2009, you will find many of them have not been online for sometime. A quick right mouse click "View Profile" tells you at the top:

Last Activity: .................... 2009 / 2010 / whatever

Yes, I did that too before I posted this thread and see it went back as far as 2009 so I hoped there would at least be some 4+ years people out there. Or people that had had the sleeve earlier and joined the site later. I too noticed that people seem to drop away after a year or two which is a great shame - in terms of sharing the knowledge long term. They only seem to re-appear and re-post if they're having any sorts of problems such as regain etc. Tis a shame... :( Thanks though :)

Possibly it is, but I have to admit I might be one who does "drop off" eventually once I also reach my goal -- the main reason why I keep returning to WLS is to keep giving myself a kick up the :mad:rse to *try* and lose my remaining 50 lbs / 30%.

I am aware that I have stalled at 210 lbs for some time, and I am hopeful that once I have settled in my (1) new job and (2) new flat (early March) -- I will be able to make headway on reducing those remaining 50 lbs.

It is only popping in here on a regular basis that reminds me that I need to try and tackle the last few stone.

I am sure if it had not been for this site, I would have ended up one of the statistical "average sleevers" which my bariatric team tells me the average sleever loses 70% of their excess weight ...... and I might have thought "Ok, that's fine, I'm no longer super morbidly obese, I'm no longer diabetic, I have normal blood pressure, etc etc, that'll do nicely, I'm done".

It is only coming on here seeing a number of sleevers and bypassers and people who had their ops around the same time as me who have lost more which keeps inspiring me to actually try and keep up the good work !!!

ANYWAY ........... talking of posters who "dropped" off, I am still curious to know whether RandomTrial turned out to be a bypasser or a sleever:

WLSurgery.com - Weight Loss Surgery Support - View Single Post - sleeve v bypass
and
WLSurgery.com - Weight Loss Surgery Support - View Single Post - sleeve v bypass

This New Zealand person turned up on a "bypass vs sleeve" thread about a year ago and said that they would not know whether they had been given a sleeve or a bypass until December 2012 ..... but no update from them. Ho hummm ;) ;)
