I may be wrong but doesnt Aspirin conflict with the Ephedrin injections you take after your bypass? Can anyone confirm/deny?

Sorry ZNS where on Earth i have got Ephadrine from I dont know. I was referring to the blood thining injections most people are given to take for the first 5 days post bypass, the name has escaped me, someone help lol

Could it be Clexane you are thinking of?
i was told no aspirin but like it has already been suggested, they can accomodate alternative meds. you need to discuss it with the surgeon. Don't let this worry you. You have come too far.

Hi Everybody
I`v just been told that if your on aspirin that you cant have a bypass is this right or wrong . Has any body on here had a bypass and is on aspirin . Please help because want a bypass .
Take care .

I'm on aspirin and having my bypass on the 27th Nov. When I've had op's in the past, I'm asked to stop taking it a week before op.

Aspirin isn't recommended post op because of its stomach irritating properties. Same as NSAIDs. However, you can take Heparin and Aspirin at the same time. I have been doing so for the last 6 months lol. You can have Aspirin post op, you will just need to be careful, take it after eating something and keep an eye out for ulcer type problems.

I think you will be fine. They may ask you to stop taking it a week before the op due to it's blood thinning properties (it reduces the risk of losing a lot of blood during the surgery), and afterwards you can cut the risk of ulcers by taking a proton pump inhibitor (like lansoprazole, omeprazole etc).

They may or may not want you to take it at the same time as the exoxaparin or heparin, everywhere is different.

Good luck

Yes shel that's my understanding too. Anything that can irritate the stomach needs to be avoided or taken under medical supervision. x x

Hi Pinky
What hospital are you under because I`m under Charing Cross and you know they all have differant rules . The man that said this is under CX aswell . Take care .

I'm under Homerton for Bypass, but have had 2 op's at the past at the London Hospital Mile End.

A few years age I use to be on Warfarin and had a op. Now I'm on aspirin, I'm just told to stop them week before op. Not sure what will happen post op cause I'm on aspirin for life.

Maybe it depends why your on them, but I would question it.
