Awaiting decision, St George's Hospital

Ok, where do I start?

I've had appointment with both the dietician and consultant. I went in thinking I wanted the band or sleeve, after a long discussion with Dr Reddy he suggested that the best option for me would be the Bypass.

I agreed to that surgery and since then I've seen the dietician Amy and have researched more on the bypass. I found that appointment quite intrusive, not sure if it was just that I was nervous. It was really hard asking all those questions and having to accept that some of my eating habits are not politically correct. :(

I received a letter this week from the consultant stating I have 'undertaken all aspects of Tier 3, I am a suitable candidate and he will discuss my case at panel'. I'm hoping this is a step in the right direction, but I am so nervous about the decision from the panel.

Has anyone else received a similar letter and how long before you were given a surgery date? What is Tier 3?
How has everyone else's journey been so far?

Hello my love! I understand how nervous and unsure you feel. As you know I am at St. George's right now, although it is not where I had my initial surgery.

Tier 3 is a specialist community weight management service for severe and complex obesity. The MDT at St George's meets each Wednesday morning and so I don't think it will be too long before they discuss your case or before you hear some news.

Congratulations on being given this chance. I wish you all the best! xx

Thanks Llora and APositive.

My mind is all over the place, will they approve, if/when they approve will it take forever for op?

Gosh, it's all too much. So far, read nothing but positive stuff about St Georges, which is good. My Dr has nothing but praises for Dr Reddy and said she is prepared to pay private fees for him to work on her.
Thanks for your explanation on Tier 3, so if I have met that, fingers crossed that's another step forward. 1 Wednesday down, hopefully if I have not gone to panel yet, I will this week.

If they approve or should i say when they approve it should not take long as they have deadlines to meet.

I was very enotional and stressed when waiting for their decisions.. And my case was sent back to mdt meeting a few times. You could read it all at the start if my diary.. :) but i had my surgery in september. So now learning to live with my bypass. :)

To be honest your letter did sound promissing. You still might need to see some specialists but fingers crossed it wont take you too long.

Ohhhh Llora I'm still getting used to the site, I don't have all permissions yet. How do I find you thread? How you feeling? How long did you wait for surgery? How much you lost so far?

Sorry for all the questions lol

I can answer your questions here.

I was referred in nov 2013. Had surgery september 2014. I think i was lucky it was rather fast. But i didnt think so when i was waiting to be approved :) :) but looking back i feel extremely lucky.

Most of the waiting was done while seeing everyone and waiting until i was put on the list.. And then it was very fast.

My bmi was almost 53 when i asked to be referred for the surgery. Now its 40.8!! ( i only weight myself once a week so that was true on wednesday)

So since the start of this journey i've lost over 30kg in total. I've lost 6.9kg on my pre op diet and then 12.8kg post op. Nothing spectacular :) i think i am a slow looser (i have pcos and diabetes).

A www thanks Llora, fingers crossed my journey will be just as swift. You weight loss is amazing. Have you experiences excess skin?

Well not yet. I can see the inner thighs, upper arms, stomach getting less tight.. Well more empty should i say as i was never tight with all the fat before :)

I hope i can live with that and accept the new saggy me in the future. After all i really dont know how it will look and make me feel. i cant be sure how much weight i will manage to loose. until i am there. So i will just have to wait :)

You will have to ask people who had their surgeries a few years ago and lost lots of weight about the loose skin. :) i am too fresh to answer this question ;)

i know you just feel "up in the air" whilst waiting cos you cant make plans etc. I know its really the worst thing waiting for something that is completely out of your control. I hope you hear soon

Exactly, I feel like I have no control whatsoever. My partner wants to book a holiday and I really don't want to go this size. I'm just waiting on a decision so I can plan my life

Aussie Scott is a bit brilliant isn't he, LOL! Very on the ball.

Good luck matey. xx

Im assuming Amy must be new. I messaged her on Friday and she said she will look into it and get back to me. Hopefully today she will have a update
