Back pain

Hi

I'm 6.5 stone down after a bypass 5 months ago, and now weigh around 14st. Extremely happy with minimal problems other than back pain.

If I lie flat and put any pressure on my lower back it hurts around my coccyx and I also get a bit of pain half way up on my left hand side. I had to stop Pilates due to the coccyx pain and now it hurts if I sit in the wrong position for a long time.

Any advice? Xxxx

I still have pain in the coxyx area when have sat too long, no other time just after sitting. BY gum thoi sitting in the bath i sstrange can feel my bones then x

If I lay on my back for any length of time my back aches so I still have to bend my legs to ease it. I suffer from osteoarthritis & fibromyalgia which don't help with joint & muscle pain. The lack of padding in certain areas makes life uncomfortable but I think I much prefer that than the old me. I shall certainly look up the Alexander link above for a bit if self help, if there's a technique to help rather than pain killers.

I'm with Chrisa on this one. Bathtime not always a complete pleasure now!

It's great to find bones in places I've never had them before, but you do find new places to hurt in, but in a good way.

I've been giving Pilates a whirl recently, I just need to be careful and stick to the stage 1 section of the moves rather than the stage 3 tying yourself in knots that some people can bend themselves into.

I broke my back many years ago and had many long conversations with specialists. I could never understand why when I was bigger I was in less pain. He explained it by saying that the fat is a little like bubble wrap. When you are fat, there is lots of cushioning around your bones and any niggles can be supported.
When I lost weight the bubble wrap disappeared and so any knocks or niggles were highlighted and everything exaggerated.

I have lost 8 stone now, my spine is mainly metal and I too suffer with fibromyalgia. I am on fentanyl which is a morphine type medication permanently plus other pain killers. I had really hoped that these would reduce once I had lost weight but there is no such hope, however, I know that it won't be getting any worse either!

Thank you for explaining that Sar. My body hurts a lot right now and wondered if loss of cushioning was the reason.

I had an emergency umbilical hernia repair 2 weeks Saturday. I have not been able to sleep in my normal position. So I am waking with terrible backache. Having to take the tramadol and paracetomal for my hernia repair, but more for my back.

It hurts as I sit here now. Getting very fed up with the pain :(
