Hi I think when the go and see the phycologyst (sorry I can't spell) they want to see if they can cope with restrictive eating before surgery. Sunderland phycologyst is not a fan of bypass and has started to put more people through this first before their op. X
Some people need 2 lose a significant amount of weight before they are considered fit for bypass/sleeve. Therefore the balloon can be used 2 do this. Also as mentioned it gives u an idea of the kind of restrictions, and changes that will need 2 b made post surgery
The balloon is fitted under sedation rather than general anaesthetic, so is a safer procedure when the risks of surgery are significantly higher than normal. When an agreed amount of weight is lost, then further surgery - e.g. bypass / sleeve - can be done with a reduced risk.
yea ive been told i need balloon by the psyshologist to see if my body can cope with change which im getting fitted 22nd dec and then if all is fine ill be having bypass xx
