Balloon

Hi to everyone this is all new to me, I'm waiting to have a balloon fitted at Sunderland , and would really like to hear from anyone who has had this done,as after watching WLS on tv the balloon didn't seem to be that good at weight loss, so I'm really confused x

Hi

I am at SRH and have a balloon. It works differently for everyone.

Personally I felt no restriction after 8 weeks and then have had to control my eating myself which obviously I'm not good at as that is how I got here to begin with.

Have only lost about 2 stone with it not a lot really at my size. I wasn't sick after a couple of days but another lady who I know was being sick for the first three months and has really struggled.

Good luck with it and just remember to relax and breath when they are inserting it and it will be much easier.

If you have any questions just ask. I get mine removed at the end of this month 30th.

Hi Fat and nearly 50:)

I have a balloon and i am similar to goofy, i was ok until 8 weeks then struggled with controlling my portions as i started exercising and felt hungrier.
I have lost 2 stone and balloon due to come out end of february where i am having a bypass at the same time.

Take care

Nicky xx

:welcome: Hi fat and Nearly 50

I am new also and am awaiting to be fitted with the balloon at Ross Hall in Glasgow sometime in the very near future. I was at the dietician there last night and although I have lost a stone since last seeing her a month ago I still have another 4 st (BMI 50) to lose before the surgeon will attempt the gastric bypass on me.
I am in a quandary too as I have read so many stories here & i too watched the WLS Program on TV. Both have put me off a little, only to create many doubts in my mind. Sometimes ignorance is bliss;). At the moment I am losing weight under my own volition and it would be great if I could continue to do the remaining 4st on my own but I am not that confident that I can keep up the momentum without help:confused::sigh:

Hi Goofy.. Are you getting bypass done at same time as the removal of balloon?

No at SRH they remove it then it is supposed to be 4-6 weeks then bypass/sleeve. As the removal is only done with either throat spray or sedation not general anesthetic. I am down for a bypass but depends on what they find they ask you to give them the option to do a sleeve. I would prefer a bypass though.

Thanks goofy... Those 4-6 weeks would worry me ... I could quite easily regain weight lost in that time period  . Only options I have been given is the bypass..or should I say I was told it would be the bypass :p. That part of the process doesn't phase me funnily enough but the inoffensive balloon does  x

I m down for the bypass but at SRH they ask you to sign to say if for any reason they can't do it they will give you a sleeve.

I had the balloon last February at Sunderland - very few problems with it going in. Coming out was worse as I just had throat spray with that... just have to remember to breathe and try and zone out. Its not nice, but its do-able.

I lost 2 & half stones which is the average (some lose more). Due to difference of opinion between psychologist and surgeon I'm still waiting for Bypass and have put on around 1 stone of what I lost, since balloon was removed in August.

The staff were great during the procedure. Restriction was brilliant initially and lasted for about 4 months and I tried to stick to smaller portions after it was removed - managed for about 1 month before teaplate size wasn't enough.

Sickness on first day as expected but nothing after that - didn't need the tablets. Could'nt really feel it inside but could feel when I'd had enough to eat. Had sherbety burps while it was in - nice, like lemonade!

also, while you have it done you will gurgle and burp and make the strangest noises and lots of dry-heaving, etc. don't worry about it - its expected.... I tried holding it in but couldn't and just let my body detach and do what it had to do. I wore a t'lady too just in case!!! :)
