Band fill

depends on the band capacity and also your personal food choices as all the factors have to worked with together to achieve the best from your band x

What size band do you have?
My provider told me last time that "normally" 7ml in a 9ml band is good restriction. You must have a bigger band?
Everyone is different and the food choices you make determine this restriction.

Hi Greenyblu - you may find the high protein foods will be more filling and help combat the hunger. Try to get in some meat or fish etc; it will help; and if you spread your protein over 6 small meals it should help!

You don`t say when you had your band fitted on your profile (it helps us find how far out you are) and can then help with suggestions.

When did you have your last fill?

If you look under the green banner above you will find all sorts of guidance and help regarding food under the banders section.

Yell if you need us! There is usually someone about hun x

Love Kat x

I have discovered that what you eat makes a huge difference to feeling restriction. I used to think that restriction was the feeling I get just as I start to get food stuck. it isn't! It's just feeling full when you have finished your meal, even when it's a very small meal. It's taken me six months to realise that!!
For example, for lunch Iam having pumpkin seed ryvita with pork slices, because the ryvitas are really crunchy and the pork is v.filling for me. I could very easily pick a smoother lunch which is not so filling, but then I would probably eat double the amount.
I hope I didn't sound too teacher-y! Just trying to help!

Thank you for that I will try x

I have a 14ml band ant the nurse told me that people usually feel restriction between 9 and 11mls in that size band.

i agree i have a 14ml band best restriction is between 11 and 12 mls generally so bear with the fill you have to fill gradually when you are there you will just know!x

My nurse told me that she looks after bandsters that have between 3ml and 12ml (in a 14ml band) and it really depends on your body/stomach. I have 4ml in now and I totally agree with Karen that it depends on what you've eaten as to how full you feel and feeling full isn't anything to do with food that won't go down or sticks.I had a fill 10 days ago and I've been feeling that I should perhaps go and have another one but there are times when I feel really really full and there are times when I feel I could eat for Scotland!!..and as Karen has said, it depends on what you eat. Feeling full is something I struggle with to understand. Is it just when you don't feel as hungry? Or is it a feeling of being stuffed? Its a really hard question for me!

Feeling full is totally different with a band - some describe it as an iron fist in the chest but personaly I dont let it get that far.

Your new stomach is on the right just under your breast bone and that is where you feel full.

You will still feel hunger and if head hunger was a problem pre band its something you will have to try to overcome.

I am almost 2 and 1/2 years post op and have posted on here over and over that if you make the good choices early on ie protein, fruit and veg and limit carbs and sugar and you will suceed!

Its all about eating band friendly textured food that will keep your pouch full and your hunger at bay - not about eating what you did before just because you can.

I used to think that restriction was the feeling I get just as I start to get food stuck. it isn't!

It certainly isnt - getting food stuck is a sign that you have eaten too quickly, not chewed enough or the wrong thing, always!

Don't worry about sounding teacher like (you dont) as you said its taken 6 months for you to realise this but if you or I or anyone can help anyone realise this sooner then we are really helping.

Sometimes I feel like I am fighting a losing battle on here which is why I dont post so often.

My aim on here has always been to try and help

Mazza- I love reading your posts- its not a losing battle because you are my guru on all things bandy ;)
Actually this thread has been a most useful one for me because I've found fullness and restriction hard to understand. I've also put on 3lbs this week by making naughty food choices ( holiday cake!) and I do have restriction so its learning what I can't do as well.
