Blockage - Help

Since I had my lunch today (chicken and mushrooms) I can't stop being sick and have that terrible 'iron fist' pain in my chest and throat. I can swallow saliva but just tried a coffee but that wont stay down either. Any ideas on how to shift it? Starting to panic a bit ;-(

Hi Julie, I had that when I first started the solid stage following bypass. I know that drinking warm boiled water and taking some windeze really helped. I'm not sure if it is the same for a band. It might be worth you contacting your provider for some advice.

If it is a blockage ( most likely the chook u had) you state its like a iron fist, I know wot u mean by this, it will go down eventually.......takes a long time and by drinking fluids will only cause u too be sick ( as the fluids cannot go down, so will only come back up) and make ur pouch tender, let nature take its course, unless its causing u severe pain or u cannot keep any fluids down after a few hours....... xxx HTH xx

Thanks dreading getting my little girl from the school bus think I will be sick at the bus stop and no one else around to get her for me, feel dreadful

I was poorly when I was out in my local town today. I have no qualms about vomiting in the street ( in a bag of course, lol) dont worry about other people hun, and try not too panic as this will cause ur band too tighten even more......deep nice relaxing breathes xx

Will have to take bag and some wt wipes I think I cant even keep saliva down :-( Right nice deep breaths here I come.....

Thanks Blue Diamond, I knew that someone who was more knowledgable about the band would be along soon. I just didn't want to leave you worrying alone Judy.

Hi Wildthing,

The only thing I can suggest is to relax and sip very very gently warm but not hot fluid and either try and bring up the blockage or allow it to slide through.

Don't suffer though, if it carries on, call provider, sometimes they can defill to allow blockage through and then refill.

I hope this sorts itself out on its own....

Aw thanks all for the reassurance Rebirth and Blue Diamond and Caz, nice to you can come on here and get some advice and kind words to calm you down. I was getting myself in a bit of a state - I was making it worse I think, I have been sick a few more times luckily I avoided it at the bus stop! Still got that painful iron fist feeling but just had few sips of warm milk Cazbandy as dreadfully thirsty and they seem to be staying down so perhaps its on the move. Have to say thats the worst I've felt since I had my band 20 months ago, quite frightening really, hope it never happens again, its chew chew chew til its slop for me now!!!

Hope you are feeling better now......sometimes with the bypass you get food stuck too and its very unpleasant waiting for it to move! (HUG) XX

Hi Judy, i hope things are a little more settled now sounds like a classic block from food thats not been chewed correctly, i hope your feeling better now, sips of hot boiled water usually softens the food there for allowing it to pass after so long, it is a very unpleasant experience when it happens, hope ur feeling better ....Liz x

Thanks for caring ladies, I have been managing warm milk since teatime and it seems to be going down ok, afraid to try food as stomach is sore from vomitting so much today hope I have done the band any damage ;-( Was a horrible experience feel pretty weak after it all but think the chicken may have moved as iron fisty feeling has eased a bit. I'll be chewing like no tomorrow Liz (well done on the size 12 t shirt by the way) Off to bd here sooo exhausted. Nite all x
