Breast lift/mastopexy?

Indieflower

I've got my mojo
Hi all :D

I was just wondering if anyone had any experiences of this and would mind sharing so that I can make a more educated decision.

4 years ago I was 17 and a half stone. I got down to 12 stone and the GP referred me for mastopexy. I missed my referral due to a bereavement and put on weight again due to feeling down about losing my loved one.

To cut a long story short, I'm getting my weight back down and I am going back to my GP next week to be referred.

I don't know anything about the procedures and eligibility criteria though. I was wondering if anyone else does?

Allso, I know that the scar is like a T shape one....how have people found the healing and overall look of that?

Overall, has it been worth it?

I really, really want mine done. They remind me of crinkly carrier bags that just lie flat against my stomach and I'm only 26! I cannot imagine living the rest of my life with these.

Any advice or experiences would be so greatly appreciated.

Hiya Indie!

Well firstly, congratulations on losing the weight. But sorry to hear about your bereavement. Hope things are getting easier for you now.

Mastopexy as far as I know is not as readily funded as tummy tucks by the NHS. You could try Google to find out your own PCT's criteria as some say they will consider certain cases and some say they will not.

It is likely that yours do since your GP referred you, but it's worth checking up on the actual criteria first.

I was told by my NHS plastic surgeon that even though my PCT is happy to do tummy tucks for those that fit the right criteria, they are reluctant to do breat lifts, although it is also not unheard of in certain cases.

I don't even know if weight loss and maintenance comes into the criteria. I think it is usually based on how bad the psetosis is (the sagging) which is actually mesaured and how much distress it is causing.

My GP referred me to the surgeon that did my tummy tuck and he sent me back to the GP saying I would need a PCT referral first this time (unlike with the tummy tuck). So I am now waiting to hear from my GP about the outcome of the PCT referral.

I'm not holding my breath. It gets me down though. So much so I have even started looking at myfreeimplants.com!!! Lol!

Anyway, hope it goes well for you, hun. As I said, some PCTs will do it. Just make sure you let them know how it affects your life and if they turn you down, be sure to appeal against their decision.

All the best,
PP

Thanks for the advice Poppy :)

I've searched the criteria but nothing for my area's PCT. I looked on another areas criteria and I fit them.....did the measurements and all :)

I'm hoping there won't be too much difference from PCT to PCT.

If all fails I will have to go private. I just feel that I've worked sooo hard to get where I am that surely they can give me a break. There are drug users, alcoholics, etc that cost the NHS a fortune each year for abusing their bodies, yet they get treatment! We're trying to take care of ourselves, surely that counts for something! :)

Hope all goes well with your PCT referral.

Many thanks,

That's promising then, chick - especially since your GP has made the referral (so assuming that they already know about your PCT's criteria). What I mean is, I doubt your GP would waste time putting you forward if there was no chance whatsoever.

Good luck, hun and just make sure you make it absolutely clear how much this affects your life. Be careful not to play it down. If you are depressed, don't try to hide it. I really, really do hope you get the go-ahead. Keep us posted.

My psetosis measurements meet the PCT requirements for some other areas too. So fingers crossed! :)

Hi Katherine :)

I've got questions if you don't mind hun :) Did you go private or did you get referred through the NHS? Did you get implants at the same time? And if you were private how much was it?

Sorry for the bunch of questions...I'm trying to get a feel for how it going to be. Did the scars heal well?

Thanks in advance chick xxx

Hi kerry,
The site is Breast health online.
I didnt have inplants my surgeon said I didnt need them.
I went private £4500. And the scars healed fantastically! Dont get me wrong there is scars, there around the nipple. They are now a faint white line and because I had the Lejour technique of surgery i only have a line leading down from the nipple but that is mainly under the boob anyway. They are still, even with the scars a 100 % improvement on the saggy boobs theyd become. I have never regretted it and would recomend it to anyone if there boobs have really dropped or the nipple is pointing south lol.( Mine now are pointing out up and proud lol)

lol....I can't wait to be that proud of my forward facing boobs! :)

It's great to hear of someone that has had it done with no regrets. I think scars is nothing in comparison to my spaniel ears! lol. I'll check that site out:)

Thanks hun xxx

Hey hun! Just thought I'd let you know I've just been told by my GP that the PCT have declined my referal. I asked her if she thought it was worth appealing and she said no. I'm not upset because I kinda expected it anyway. I'm now obviously going to start getting more active about finding a way to do it privately.

Anyway, sending you positive vibes over, hun. I hope you have more luck with yours. :)

Oh no, Poppy! I'm so sorry to hear that hun. It's so shitty when you've worked sooo hard! Anyway, enough of my negative vibes (just really feeling for you) and wishing you all the luck with finding a good private surgeon. No doubt you'll be strutting your stuff in no time hun :D:D

Keep me posted, and I will too, although NHS waiting times might make it a bit of a wait! lol

Will defo keep you posted, chick. I'm a bit miffed that they don't see mastopexy in the same light as abdominoplasty (because in my eyes they are both usually required as a result of the same problem).

But like I said, I'm not too upset because I expected a rejection anyway. Best way to go for it I suppose, not getting your hopes too high and then if it does come back as a 'yes' that's a bonus. But if it's a 'no' you haven't lost anything, if you know what I mean. :)

myfreeimplants.com here I come! lol :D
