Hi all,
So i have my Pre-Op on 5th December for Gastric Bypass Surgery.
I am getting this surgery due to Gastroesophageal reflux disease and the fact my esophagus doesn't close at all.
I have had this condition for around 15 years (I am 26).
When I was 17 I collapsed in agony and went to hospital, where nothing was found.
For about a year after that i would be rushed into hospital on a regular basis with agonising stomach pains with no solution found.
Eventually i was prescribed Omeprazole and basically told to get on with it. Again this carried on and it did help a little, but then the medication stopped working and i was rushed to hospital again.
This time i was given Lansoprazole. I was told that this was all that could be done.
i dealt with the pain for a couple more years, then when i was around 23 i was out shopping with my friend when i collapsed again. This time i had a Gastroscopy where they found i had ulcers in my esophagus that had ruptured. I was finally put on a list to see a specialist.
Fast forward a few years and i am now approved for a Gastric Bypass to resolve the issue. I am too heavy to qualify for the normal GERD surgery.
Some people think it's a drastic thing to do but i am at the stage in my life where i would be willing to have no stomach at all if it makes the pain stop.

I am on slimming world at the moment to help reduce my weight, when i was first weight i was 19st 7lb and was advised to lose weight to show willing for the surgery. I am now 18st8.5lb.

i am excited about not having pain anymore and the food thing is not an issue. I have a good circle of friends for support but would really appreciate some support and guidance from people who have been through this already.

Thank you
Laura

Hello and welcome @Laura Gold!

Having the normal GERD surgery was one option for me before they eventually decided to remove my band and convert me to a sleeve.

Sorry to hear you had to suffer so long and all the best for your surgery on 5th. Not long now x
