Here's one for the girls:

my bypass is on Sunday and I'm due on any day now, will this cause any problems with my operation, or do they deal with it in hospital, Im really worried and think I'm going be so embarrased by it .

You won't be the first from here to suffer with bad timing! Make sure you have pads as they are easier to change and go for night time ones or extra long ones so you don't leak as you'll be lying on your back for a long time.

I got a period twice on operating table!! they just ignored it, it was my bodies reaction to the shock of surgery. I take night time pads into hospital and the nurse helped me put them on.. don't worry about it, but maybe mention it to both nurse and surgeon. good luck with your op xx

hi ya it will be fine i had no catheter and they had me up and going to the loo about 1.30 Min's after op and the nurses will of course help you hope this helps XX

Hi,

It wont be a problem. Just let your nurse know when you get there. They are used to having that happen.

hi, i came on the night before my op couldnt believe the timming! it's more embarrassing for us then the nurses, i even had to have a catheter fitted. i went down to theatre with a pad on and knickers, when i woke up after surgery both had gone!!!! i never saw them knickers again!! so make sure you wear your old ones just incase the same happens!! joking aside it is awkward but please dont worry cos no one else in the hospital will, good luck for the op, take care x

Hi FA, I had my bypass on Saturday just gone and guess what...24hrs before I got my period! Marvelous! I phoned to asked whether this would be an issue and the nurse said not at all, they just don't like tampons in the operating theatre so will give me a pad and knickers.

Strange thing was, 2hrs before surgery, the bleeding completely stopped! I had a pad and knickers in theatre but these had vanished by the time I was in recovery!! No catheter or anything.

Anyway bleeding then returned 24hrs later for a couple of hours before disappearing again. Very weird.

I think Indianlight is right, your body just goes into shock and does it's own thing!

Good luck with everything,
Cuppa xx

Thanks Cuppa,
Hopefully I will go into shock and delay it, Im feeling all over the place and getting really nervous so maybe that might help delay it too.

How you feeling now cuppa ?

Mine came on the day after surgery. It was a right pain - had to take my drip etc to the loo with me... hassle!

but they are totally used to it so don't worry.
