Hi,

Having been a bit of a "lurker" and have recently started posting, I just wanted to ask some advice....

Is it the type of eating pattern you have that determines whether you are advised to have a band or bypass?

Would really appreciate any info

Deb

yes your eating pattern determines what op would suit your needs best, i was a "volume" eater and loved huge portions at meal times rather than a snacker/grazer, so my band has helped me learn portion control, banding isnt much good for people that snack or like sweet foods such as choc, ice cream and cakes as the band will not restict the amount of these food types that is consumed.

hi Deb, Yes it really is the type of eating pattern you have. If you are a volume eater ie large protions then you're better of with the band as this only allows you to eat small portions. If you are a picker of bad foods ie sweet stuff or fatty stuff then the bypass would suit you better. I'm sure someone will be along from both sides (band and bypass) soon thats already had their op to explain things from their experience. Good luck in deciding whats best for you. The only thing I can say is "be honest with your self " about your eating habits. I'm a volume eater. If I can see any plate then there's not enough food on it lol. xxGaynorxx

Well for me, I researched all the information on both procedures. At first I wanted the band cos its a less evasive operation but there is always the danger of slipping back into old habits. In fact my consultant said he knew of people who liquidised chocolate to feed their cravings! In th end I went for the bypass (and the consultant agreed) cos of my eating habits. I love sweet and high fat stuff and if I'm putting myself through this major operation, it has to be for keeps, no chance at all of slipping back into old ways. Mind you, the thought of such a big operation makes me feel sick anyway!!!! Julie x
