Can any one help??

I had my gastric band fitted yesterday. Sitting at home now. After drinking half a cup of soup I feel full to bursting...Very uncomfortable feeling! I thought liquids passed easily???

I've also got a cough...Can coughing cause any problems?? I dont want my band slipping!!

Someone please help!!!:wave_cry:

hi, you will feel like this the reason is because of the swelling inside from the pouch, this is the 1st initial restriction you feel after banding whilst your healing, this will ease and each day does get easier. once fully healed this feeling will go until you start getting fills. coughing will be ok, most people suffer this and its usually from the vent tube used during the op, take each day as it comes and it will improve.

Surgery Saturday...its now tuesday and i still cant manage anything other than a few sips of water without feeling really fit to burst...I know i must sound like a proper baby but I just need reassurance that this is normal!!

One other thing....The surgeon has put 1.5 in to my band when he put it in. Is that what they do straight away??

Wish I could help...but if I were you I would ring the place that did your surgery...as you do need to get fluid in...Good luck.

(((hugs)))

Hi, I was able to drink cold drinks no problem after my band but hot drinks were much harder they seemed to fill me up after a few sips and leave me feeling sick especially hot chocolate!
If you are really worried give your provider/hospital a ring just to get some reassurance, I only had 1/2ml put in my band during op your lucky having 1 1/2 put in

you sound completly normal i had a expresso cup tiny thing i had all my soups in that i hardly ate anything or manage more than that for hot drinks for about a week but it does wear off just make sure your sipping plenty of water so you dont get dehydrated

Hiya, congrats on the op. As others have said contact yr medical team if worried but to be honest all I could cope with were tiny sips of water/juice in first days. I had 4 mils put in during op. x

Hope this has got a little better and easier for you. How are you Now?

Thanks for all of your encouraging words and reassurance......I have had a much better day today thanks. I have managed to keep on sipping water without being in pain. I tried soup at lunch time. Managed 10 teaspoons and was fit to burst. Tried a few teaspoons of low fat custard tonight which went down okay but I have read on here that it might cause band slippage in 1st 2 weeks so I wont be doing that again. I should be okay shouldnt I???

Dont think I am getting enough fluids yet but I realise now it is still early days.

This site has kept me going this week and reading everyones successes has helped me so much to keep positive...Well Done everyone! xx

Fluids still back up in the throat if not drank slowly enough. Just sip them and you'll be fine. Give each sip time to pass through. As for the coughing, if it hurts hold a cushion to your stomach as this helps loads.Congratulations on joining the losers benchxx

Hi...Welcome to Minis :)

every day will get a little easier...I couldn't manage cold drinks or fruit flavoured squashes for many weeks after banding but found warm drinks and soup easier to cope with. I can now manage all (except fizzy of course which were not to have)

it does take a while to build up your liquid intake, so just keep sipping away for now.

I had 2mls in at my op.

Spoke to the nurse today...She thinks i might need some fluid taken out of my band!! She said i should be managing more fluids but its so hard mentally to drink it when you know you are gonna get that really uncomfortable full sensation. She suggested i try sucking on lollie ices. I've got an appointment booked at clinic on Tuesday but really dont wanna have fluid removed....Any other ideas to help me please.
