Post Opper
Hi,

I havent been told to have any of these protien shakes or anything like that.

I am on the final week of purees/soft food and having problems eating anything at all - it just makes me feel really sick, for instance today i had

orange juice when i woke up

weight watchers apricot fromage frai around 11

half tin ww soup for lunch around 2 had to force it down

just tried to have some mash, meat and carrots all smooshed up gave up after about 3 tea spoons

i am hardly managing any drinks either as that makes me feel sick too

help...........................

It does take time, but you have to try and drink, try ice lollies i found these good, i found mash very heavy on the tummy, i had baby egg custard which was nice and low fat custard, maybe your pouch just taking time to heal xxx

i dont even feel like i have a pouch!!! i just had some orange juice and feel a bit less queasy am a bit worried i am not getting enough fluids, hardly wee at all or anything else come to that - and not lost any weight for 2 weeks now - must have hit that blue time that people seem to get

x

Hun the orange juice maybe a bit acidic.. ive got to drink cranberry juice at the min for the said water infection... but ive been drinking it 100ml juice and 100ml water... so maybe you need to do that with the orange juice...just water it down a bit x

yes i had ice cubes in it so it was watered down a bit - i got some cranberry cartons today so i will do that tomorrow and water them a bit - i find it easier to drink anything with ice cubes in - not sure why - xx

yeah i like my drinks cold or my hot drink hot... thats why i put my tea in a flask so it stays hot lol... in the summer i put ice in all my cold drinks x

Fruit juices should be diluted 50/50 as the acids upset our pouches.
Make your purree's almost as sloppy as soups to start & gradually thicken it over a few days as your pouch learns to tolerate more solid foods than just liquids.
Slowly sip your drinks try a few sips every 15mins & see how that goes, the lack of loo stops shows your body isn't happy & you are risking getting dehydrated so try to up the fluids. It will also be in shut down hanging onto every ounce of fat as it thinks you're starving it, upping the fluids will help with that & gradually as it gets used to the amount of food you're eating it will relax & give up hanging onto the fat.
I use a thermal mug brought from Lakeland it's china with a silicone sip lid. The china warms so it's hot briefly to the touch & then it cools but the drink inside stays warm for a good 45mins or more letting you drink a hot cuppa no matter how long it takes.

penelope is right hun.. the fruit juices do need to be diluted.... please get in touch with your dietition or the clinic/hospital and ask them to send you or email you a food list. also im pushing i again lol... fluids fluids fluids... i wouldnt wish the water infection ive been going through on anyone xx

Doughie, you are rushing things.

Firstly when us nhs patients leave hospital we get a prescription from our gp for Fortimel drinks which have added protein but we only have about 4 weeks supply of them and tbh a lot of people dislike them so make the protein other ways.

Fruit juice in any flavour needs to be diluted, mainly because the sugar content can make some people dump and because of the acid in it.

There is no need to 'force' anything down especially at your early days. If your not that hungry then don't worry overly. When you do want to eat go for high protein such as soft cheese. No way i would recommend anyone a month out to eat mashed up meat n veg... But when you do get to that stage you won't want more than 3 or 4 teaspoons before you are full....

Really concentrate on getting the fluids right up before worrying about food...

To make sure you are getting plenty of healing protein in you and keep the fluids coming why not get some Marvel (or supermarket brand) dried milk, mix a spoon into your milk for coffee/hot choc...

And as i said before if you want to ask anything feel free to pm me x

Went to drs today, she has given me anti sickness pills so i have managed a lot more fluids today, it was much easier to drink while not feeling sick, not going to worry about eating (thanks for the advice phatmomma - my surgeon and dietitian do not give out food lists) I am seeing them on the 31st so not going to worry about eating much till then and just going to concentrate on drinks and soups until the sickness goes

i keep reading the letter they gave me about eating etc but it really doesnt give me any advice, i think i will call them tomorrow

thanks everyone - dont know what i would have done without your help and advice.

I hope you all have a fantastic Christmas

xx

the anti sickness tabs do help, but they make you sleepy, i had one yesterday morning and i slept for an hour after breakfast... then this morning i had another one. went to the docs at 8.40 and had to wait for my doctor to sort out my repeat prescription and fell asleep in the waiting room for 40 mins lol... i got cyclizine. im not gonna take one in the morning to see how i get on.. but if im feeling oozy then will take it x
