I am having my Gastric band fitted in July 2012

Can't wait, but I wanted to ask people who have already had the band what OTHER changes did you notice, I am not talking weightloss.


For example : Skin (I am quite spotty at the mo, did your complexion improve), is your hair shinier, relationships (did your personality change i.e more confident) - did you split from other half or find new love? Did the gastric band have an knock on effect to other parts of your life?

Reason I am asking is the last I was a 'normal' size was when I was 18 years old and I was a completely different person to who I am now, I was bubbly confident and outgoing - currently I am quite shy and let people walk over me. I am not sure who I really am and I am a bit worried to find out?

I would appreciate anyone wanting to share their experiences...

My hair is in the best condition it's ever been in, I keep being told I look years younger, on top of which I feel like I'm in my 20's for the 1st time. My confidence is still getting there after years of not feeling good enough. I've become vain, I'm always looking in the mirror and I like what I see which is the biggest change for me. I avoided mirrors for at least 10 years!! There's loads more but these are the ones that spring to mind.

my skin changed dramatically i used to get really bad dry skin above my eyebrows and to the left of my nose and it has cleared up and gone since my weightloss

People keep telling me my skin looks great, and although my hair is going through a bit of a thin stage at the mo people also say it looks shiny! I used to get boils but not had one since surgery. Confidence has gone up and I don't feel so awkward walking down the street. I have also found that people are nicer to me - men open doors instead of letting them go in my face, shop assistants smile and talk more. (Shocking how prejudiced society can be without even trying) So all in all everything's more positive for me.

Same questions to long term bypassers. Also if any bypassers have/had pcoc how did the surgery help you, as I have pcos and hope that the weightloss will help with the conditions?
Btw I have all the symptoms of pcos
