clear/cream soups

Whats best for these soups, not a fan of tomato soup, or i guess this is where i christen the hand blender lol

I blend anything the rest of the family are having (provided it's healthy!)
I also have cup-a-soup, or the dry soup mix - made then I drain the lumps out. I have had pea & ham soup, blended with extra ham for the extra protein, oxtail soup, etc. It may not sound nice, but tomato soup with some corned beef in (extra protein again) is quite tasty....
Hope this all helps!
I'm 3 weeks post-op so still suffering the pureed stage, but it's not all bad when you get into it.
Good luck

I am 4 days post op, and the soups are ok but the tinned ones are to thick and hurt to eat. So I have added extra water to thin it down.

i hated this stage as i hate soup,i lived off tomato soup and low fat custard at this stage xxx

u need to water the custard down a bit tho as its quite thick x

I have found blitzing big soups good, my fave - chicken curry flavour.

Also, bovril is high in protein too

That's good to know about Bovril, thanks.

Ooh big soups, be nice to be tasting food again lol

I'm not a fan of tinned soups as they always seem to leave a weird aftertaste. My favourite homemade soup is Butternut Squash and Red Pepper - 1 Squash, 1 Pepper, sprinkle of herbs (if these are allowed), sprinkle of black pepper, 1 stock cube or jelly, 2 pints of water. Boil until veg is cooked and soft and then blitz... lovely!

I'm still pre-op but my favourite soups are the fresh ones from Tesco, Co-op and the like. Co-op's tomato and basil is great with some chorizo sausage sliced into it. You guys would probably have to blitz it :)
(I am so glad I have a blender and a food processor already!)

I am now just blitzing any soup, tinned or homemade. Going to make a fish soup today, with fish and veg, and a long blitz LOL. Just fancy a different taste. This stage is hard, but I am losing loads of weight at the minute. Did any one feel really tired at this stage??

hi hope you dont mind me asking . did you bliz tinned soup or made y own . just geting advise ready for my opp 22 sept . maybe make drinks as well or smoothers . thanks

Does the high protein content get lost if you have added meat such as ham or corned beef, but then you have to blitz and sieve it to make it without lumps?

I loved the heinz big soup specially the chicken one with veg tastes delicious well blended with bit water lovely x had lots of vegs blended, used to blend shepherds pie, n fish pie stew well blended, after the first week never used packet or tinned anything everything was made fresh so that we knew exactly what was in it. Sunday luch is agreat way to make extra meals and freeze them blend the vegh and freeze. Even now I put up extra portions for meals for me through the week saves worrying if i'm having all the requirements for healthy mind and body, have had my bloods done and have no vitamin deficiencies so most be doing it right nearly 1 year post now. x

I blitzed some tinned or fresh soups, such as pea & ham and I added extra slice of ham for the protein. I never sieved as I managed the tiny lumps. I'd advise that if you're thinking of freezing food before hand, don't do a lot. I used ice cube trays and only managed about 2-3 cubes per meal in the beginning. Now I can have around 6 or just under 1/2 tin of soup. In the early days, home-made smoothies may be too thick, so add plenty of liquid.
Good luck

I have done homemade soups and have done tinned with extra cooked veg. I seive the soups as I am only 7days post op and still on liquid and dont want to risk it. i have thinned down smoothies. I have frozen a bit but it does not take to long to make and its kinda nice to be doing something in the recovery period.
