hi all, i am going swimming today for the first time in about 10 yrs and i'm scared to death, i had asked my stepdaughter to come with me and up till an hour ago she was now she has to do other things so i have debated do i go on my own or sit at home :( i have decided to go but have butterflies even now :( do i have the confidence to go out of the changing room to the pool in a cozzie ? i don't know the answer but i will only know when i get there :) i can't even make a quick dash because i can't take my stick with me so will be a long slow entrance :( thank god i've managed to lose some weight or i'd still not be doing this (or anything else)

Hi go for it and hold your head up high, so what if people look at you. You have lost a fantastic amount of weigh so far so bite your lip and go for it, you will enjoy it once you are in the pool. good luck and i'll pop back later to see how you got on.

Good luck angie, its very daunting and until ive lost as much as you i would'nt go. It might not be too busy, the kids are all in school and once your in it will be bliss.
Go for it.
Kim

go...do it!!! and walk out of there having enjoyed it!!!

you CAN do this!!

You could always do as Dawn does , wear a wrap till you get to poolside , or wrap your towel around you . Once in the water , all is fine
Enjoy xx

You go girl - you will be fine - i wish i could go but our local one is closed - they used to have a ladies only time on a sunday - maybe they have one of those at yours?

any way enjoy and do a few strokes for the rest of us too chicken to go :flirt2:

xx

i keep thinking if i don't go my weight will've won again :( i really could do with finding out if there is a local private pool and ask some other people if they would go to share the cost :) i'll see after today what i think but a gym is out of the question because of my rheumatoid arthiritis so swimming will be the best exercise i can do :)

I'd say just go for it. I did and I love it now. The first time was a little daunting but I just thought to hell with it, if anyone looks at me then let them look. My health is more important than someone's views.

I go each week now and it gets easier each time I go. :)

Did you go swimming hun????

You're very brave Angie.....I would love to have the balls to go swimming....Maybe one day.

Take Care

No balls required Andy - just your trunks!

Have just treated myself to a waterproof MP3 playter so I can listen to audio books on my weekly 1½ miles.

Swimming is brilliant for those with joint problems. Nobody cares what you look like. Just do it.

Hope you went hun ?
Like Cheryl says i have a thin sarong i wrap around me to poolside which makes it so much easier.
In water i feel free and even at 27st swimming was wonderful :) I may look like a walrus on land but can hold my own in the pool, started off struggling to do 20 lengths, last night did 110 !!!!!!
Go and enjoy it, its daunting the first time but it gets mch easier xxxxxxxxxx

sorry not been on for a while but yes i did go :) i sat for a while in my cozzie in changing room first but thought well i'm here now so might as well do it , kids started to come in about half 3 so i got out a little later but did 18 lengths (not as good as 110 ) but stopped when it started to pull, so this week i'm going to go again and try a bit more :) thanks everyone for the boost xxxx

Flippin well done hun that was good going !!!!
Keep gong and t will very soon build up, it has taken me 3-4 months to get to the 100 mark and im only pushing it to get fit before my surgery.
Once you get used to going you will chat to others there and it makes it much nicer :)

Well done HUN! I cant wait to go swimming, clinic said to wait at least 3 weeks so I've said a month so this time in Feb I'll be a water baby with you - & the waterpoof mp3 player is a brill idea! :)

xx

Just an update on the MP3 player - used it for first time yesterday - got so wrapped up in the audio book I ended up swimming for nearly 2 hours - and I wasn't tired!

Definitely a good investment.

And the book I was listening to? Dark Lover by JR Ward - absolutely wonderful series that I've read 3 times, but still manage to be enthralled by each time.

Highly recommended if you like your vampires hot, passionate and warrior-like. No Twilight-lovers here.

well i won't be going again now for a while :( i've got two broken ribs so they need to heal first :)

just to let you know , i go swimming every week now 20 lengths or 30 on good day :) and believe it or not go to the gym too :) i can't do weights but can now cycle 15km and use rowing machine approx 2km (it pulls my arms ) i then go in the jakussi and steam room (heaven )

Glad to hear your ribs have healed Angie. I've joined a gym too - can't believe I actually enjoy it and get grumpy if getting stuck at work means I miss out!
