Wont hurt to start taking your multivit prior to the op - should be sanatogen a-z complete or similar. Everything else is post op. You wont be able to take the Multivit until 8 weeks post op cause of the size of it but it wont matter - you will be using your natural reserves during that time. You need Ferrous Sulphate (iron) 2oomgs x 2 a day, chewable Calcium (Im prescribed AdCal D x 2 a day), the multivit x 1 a day and a B12 shot every quarter. Not sure what you mean about the sugar and fat being under 5. Rule for bypassers is stay off anything that has a high sugar content - sweets, chocolate, cake, biscuits etc. Yogourt like miller light is fine even though it has traces of sugar in it. No added sugar squash is ok, fruit juice like Copella is ok - stay away from ones with sugar in them. Its strange at first but you get used to.

I started vitamins about a week post op. I bought some from the clinic I went through but couldn't tolerate them so am just using a normal multi-vitamin plus iron tablets.

Hi claudia, different surgeons have different opinions about when to start taking vitamins etc post op but I personally don't see any harm in taking them as soon as you are able. I was told to start taking mine straight away, including the multivit (which I break in 3).

Re the sauces, watch the sugar/fat content, I use extra light mayo and if I want sauce just a tiny dab. And that's only in the past few days I've tried it. I used to be a ketchupaholic! I would go very easy when you try pasta, and rice too, they can continue to swell in your pouch making you uncomfortably full.

I think the rule with sugar is no more than 5g in every 100g, I'm sure someone will correct me if that's wrong.

The dietician at my hospital has recommended i start taking multi vits when i start my pre op diet....

I was given all my vitamins when i left hospital so this may be the case with you, i had forceval a multi vitamin which is huge! chewable calcium, zinc and iron capsule as i couldnt stomach the syrup, as for the sauces im sure your be fine but i would stay away from them for the first couple of months and opt for the lighter ones. coco's right it's under 5g for fat and sugar in 100g, your soon get used to it all even though it must sound quite daunting at the mo! good luck :)

All mie were about a week post op when I could start eating (soup) and swallow the little multi vits - my multivits come from the doc on prescription so make sure you check with your GP x
