Contraception ?

Sorry if this is TMI but what contraception are people using?

I was trying to convince before having op and had a miscarriage due to my weight the Drs said so I have not been on anything a while but don't want to risk anything either now I have had op

My gp is saying the pill but I'm worried with all the loose bowel movements and runs (sorry tmi) that it won't work?

Any advice ?

My nurse and surgeon both warrned me to be extra careful. And they said that the pills might be less effective due to bypass . So their recomended way of contraception was a coil.

I have the Mirena coil. Have had a few over the last 8 years and I can't imagine anything else. I have it due to problems I had after the birth of my second child and currently this little device is the only thing that keeps me off the hysterectomy operation table. I have a small light period of 1-2 days maybe once every 3 months. No pains, no pmt. it's not for everyone though and the first 9 months of mine I had to have 3 replacements. Worth it in the end though.

I did have a copper coil prior to my surgery, but had an unfortunate experience with the strings getting lost. For the year before surgery we used nothing. Then for the year after it was just condoms, as we knew we would be trying to conceive after the first year. Because I have pcos and had severely messed up cycle i didn't want to have any artificial hormones, and wanted to see if my body would correct itself (it did, yay).

So now I'm thinking about what to use once the baby arrives, and I'm leaning towards an implant. I know it can cause irregular bleeding, especially as it ages, but I'm thinking i only really want it for 12-18 months before I'll want to try for another baby.

If i was looking a longer term solution i would be happy to have the coil again.

they usually ask you if you are planning to have any children within three years so might not be for you then the implant ! X (or you could say you won't but change your mind!!!)

That's interesting, the advice i was given was hormones to return to normal levels within 3 months. But that the injection could potentially last for much longer. Oral contraceptives are not advised in bypass patients. Looks like the good old copper coil may still be the best option.

What I meant was they like to keep the implant in for three years I think your hormones return almost instant!! X

Lol, I see what you mean. I can't see that being a barrier, they can be removed before the licence is up, its patient choice. I was interested in the patches, but its not advisable to breastfeed using them.

I'm hoping to start trying as soon as the Dr gives me the ok. I thought pill might be risky and I have had 3 coils before and had no problems just after all I have been tru in the past few months I was looking for a less invasive route but that's not looking good is it? I may prepare myself for coil again.
