Well my 13yr old has started cookery (oops sorry home economics) this year and boy oh boy what a start... First week was good she did a fruit salad, nom nom delish...

Last week it was flapjack... She's made it at her dads yesterday as well as school Thursday... God i love flapjack its so sweet.....

I hope they start making some food i can enjoy really soon....

On a brighter note i have my copy of 'Return to Slender' and am hoping she might find something in there she can make for all of us xxx

My Dan (year 10) is going GCSE cookery, last week it was triple choc brownie this week its going to be strawberry and custard tart, I do have a nibble but no more

My eldest loves to cook but fortunately his tastes run to savoury stuff normally! He does a great curry! :)

i have just taught my 12 yr old to cook scrambled egg and omelette, you should see the state of the pan when she has finished!

Start them young Julie.. the best way... I make sure everyone in our house knows how to survive... and particularly now I'm going to be having small meals.... they will be having to help themselves more... I started everyone off young and it's certainly made them more independent.

Love and hugs xxx

Oh Bev, i did start them young. She's been ironing her own uniform for the past 2 yrs and tbh a couple of years ago i was laid up with a very nasty UTI hit my bed for 5 days (which is unheard of) and she cooked for her and her little sister and even went to the cashpoint over the road when i ran out of money for bits n pieces...

I just want her to cook other things apart from sweet stuff :) She is looking at lamb koftas and some quorn pitta things out of Return to Slender so fingers crossed xxx

Great stuff Julie, I must send for this book, would you recommend 'Return to Slender?'. xxx

Looks delish, not tried to cook anything yet! Is giving me inspiration though :) Why not put it on your xmas want's list? xx

It does look a good book - and the website has some interesting goodies too - she often puts on more recipes.
I think its www.bariatriccookery.com.
She has a FB page too.

I have a daughter in year 11 doing GCSE Food technology (cooking to the rest of us) coursework - it was flapjack and choccy sauce last week - rough puff open apple tart and proper custard this. We've had luscious cheese and onion quiche, pizza base pastry cheese and veg tart, summer fruit muffins and cornish pasties so far!!

As they have to be scored it's rude not to give em a go!!
She was our carer when I couldn't move at 24 st and her dad wad poorly - so she is a good cook.

Hard though isn't it?

xx

all my girls were independent, by the time they were 12 they did their own washing and ironing, (their choice), and could cook basic meals, when my youngest was 9, and i wasnt in, she was being cared for by her older sister, who went into the kitchen to find an absolute mess, kristi wanted an egg sandwich, and had tried to grill it, she wouldnt believe that you had to fryit, because i never fried anything, there were about 8 congealed eggs at the bottom of the grill pan, and theyd slipped through the tray thing,, she also put easy iron in the actual iron, because on the tv advert the bottle changes into the shape of an iron. we've had many a laugh with her antics, because she wanted to do what her older sisters were doing. lol
