Does my funding have a "use by" date?

Hi all, as previously posted I got my funding letter and have appointments booked with my team and dietician. What is worrying me now is that if things take a while and are still ongoing after April will the disbanding of PCTs mean the offer is no longer valid?

That's a good point hope that's not the case :-( I've got appointments booked in January :)

I've been waiting nearly 3 yrs for my op and have had my funding approved for the same amount of time. I got lost in the system and discharged but when my doctor referred me again this yr my funding was still there.

Blimey, what a nightmare for you carebear, it's the disbanding of PCT that I'm concerned about as funding decisions will be made by GPs after April (as far as I know). My GP had nothing to do with my referral as it was done by a specialist so bit concerned if it expires after April...

I don't think you should worry because you cannot control the surgery waiting times and there's legal claws that stop funding being taken back for no good reason or expiring because of the waiting list. I think everyone getting funding up until April will still have their funding after as normal and they would of wrote you if anything was going to change I think.

Thanks carebear. Funny how this process messes with your head. I keep thinking of things that will scupper it. Where are you now in the process?

As far as I know a lot of funding has granted in collaboration with PCTs and Specialised Commissioning groups. And it is they who are 'billed' for your surgery. These groups have been in transistion for a while, and there will be further changes. But basically the SEGs will work with the new CCGs in the a similar way as they did with PCTs. There may be some disruption, but I think its highly unlikely that your funding will disappear.

Thank you for that x

I finally got a OP date for 2nd of Jan  and I didn't even have to go to the final two workshops. I'm guessing its because they messed up and it took so long. The hospital told my doctor in writing my surgery would be done by the end of 2010.

Once you meet the surgeon and start going to the workshops it starts to move fast just be sure to keep contacting them every few wks to ask about progress so you don't get "lost" like me
