so the bank holiday is over and i got a phonecall off the doc saying hes not happy to refer me but will as he has pressure from my why weigh team and the practice manager. told me im only 25 and should do it the " normal way" he said i would never get funding as my bmi is 38, i explained it goes off start bm which was 41 ( was higher than that last yr but i lost a stone) then he said " well in my opinion i would bother as the surgeon is bound to say no" id rather the surgeon say no than the dr as he will know more about these things. i feel im having a rotten time and hes prejudice against me for some reason.

Sounds like a right miserable git to me! Like you said, it would be better to be refused by a surgeon than a GP because the surgeon is the specialist!

In my experience some GPs can be arrogant so and so's sometimes! Hope you can get passed this hurdle and get more satisfactory help from the surgical team!

Good luck

Get your PCTs criteria , policy & procedures for WLS & swot up on it as extra ammunition. Agree that the surgeon & specialist bariatric team should be making that decision.
I was very lucky as I had a supportive GP but my poor friend doesn't & we are fighting both the GP & PCT. have had to enlist other specialist consultants & her MP.
Such a postcode lottery.

Once hes sent that referal off and you get some correspondence from the hospital, ask to see another doctor next time you need to go to the surgery. You dont need negativity like that, you need support and he aint gonna give you that.

There has been changes to the criteria your bmi needs to be over 50 to get funding unless u are a diabetic they have different guidelines to follow now good luk

It depends which PCT you are with Mikaela, they all differ. My PCT is 40 with no co morbidities and also we don't have to apply for funding!!
