dumping after caffeine in paracetamol?

sukay

Trying to focus on future
hi all

anybody had a dumping experience after taking "extra strength" paracetamol containing aspirin and caffeine?

Just suffered it myself and never thought it would happen with caffeine?

I haven't experienced it either. Hope it doesn't happen to you again.

i havent used any form of medicence since my bypass, not sure what we can take and i suffer wit ankle and back pain. hope ur ok now x

Are you sure it was that? True dumping is only caused by sugars, there is another form caused by fats, but I've not heard of anything like dumping caused by paracetemol or caffiene.

What else had you consumed that day?

Perhaps your medication was too strong for you now you have lost some weight. I had a very strange episode recently. I've been taking Tramadol for my arthritis for 3 1/2 years and it's had very little effect on me pain wise, so I've not taken any since my op, but I had a particular painful day were I took 2 Tramadol as usual. Within 30 minutes, I'd gone light headed, turned grey & then threw up! My GP said that it's probably to do with the way my body now absorbs meds etc.

OMG,,,, Tramadol are evil  I had them once and I ended up thinking I was dying!! They made me so ill, never again lol :sigh:

I've always been fine with them until now. Now I'm just gonna stick with my Co-codamol

Like Shel says I don't think you can dump off caffeine:confused:I had a bad do once after having sorbitol in sugar free mints, and it took a while for me to identify what had made me dump:(:(

well I have to admit it wasn't true "dumping" - it was feeling very faint, very lightheaded and trembling from the inside out (if that makes sense)

I felt nauseaus too - had a cool bath cos thought it was the heat, but I honestly feel it was the effect of the caffeine. Hadn't had much to eat either. Haven't taken anything like that since the op. Stuck to basic paracetamol.

.....laid me up for half a day though :(

If you hadn't had much to eat it could have been a low blood sugar episode. I get them quite often as a rare complication post op, hypoglycaemic episodes. They start with weakness in my arms and legs, then a general lethargy, dizziness, butterflies in my tummy, heavy limbs and then nausea. Easily solved by some fast release sugar (chocolate!) followed by something carby for a slow release sustain.

We do react to meds differently post op, I am now allergic to penicillin, and react to codeine, but I am fine with Tramadol and paracetemol. Paracetemol with aspirin/caffiene is a very mild med to react to though. The amount of caffiene in them isn't huge, do you drink coffee ever?

not very often Shell :)

Anadin extra contains 45mg of caffiene, your average cup of coffee contains around 100mg, so if you are ok drinking coffee then I doubt it would be the caffiene.
