Endoscopy

Hi Louise, I had one about 5 years ago when they thought I had either appendasitus or an ulcer or both and ended having got neither but a very bad UTI. Anyway, I had to have an endoscopy and had the spray but then was so tearful and nervous that I also had sedation. The sedation was fab as I don't even remember a thing about it right from when I was in recovery, I only remember walking back on my own to the ward I was on and getting back in bed.

Good luck with whatever you choose. I didn't have to have one for my op though I know some hospitals do it as a matter of course.

My mom had the spray. Said it was horrid. Really would opt for the sedation if I were you. Good luck :) xxx

i had both - not that i think the sedation done much..... wasnt too bad actually compared to what i was expecting !! xx

Did you opt for spray or sedative?
I have mine on the 31st and am toying between the two. I have a bowel condition and am more used to colonoscopies which I have never received any form of numbing for..
As always and advice much appreciated.
xx
I had the sedation and throat spray I had the sedation so that everyone at home would have to look after me for a couple of hours!!!!!! xx

I had the throat spray and yes it tasted horrid but the procedure was so quick I was glad to be able to leave straight afterwards. I had got myself into a bit of a flap with worry but it was so quick and nothing as bad as I had imagined. If you are a very nervous person then maybe the sedation is for you, but you do have to wait about until you are free of the sedation before leaving and you cannot drive if you've had sedation.

i had my endoscopy at srh and i opted for throat spray tasted awful but bearable so i could leave asap as horrible work wouldnt give me time off so i had to go straight there from hospital so no option of sedative for me! procedure only lasted a couple of minutes and was in no way as bad as i expected, my one tip would be to breathe through your mouth whilst the tube is in, i didnt get that at first and panicked a bit but it honestly isn't that bad, and f you can do it without sedation your out in no time at all! x
