Endoscopy

Hi all

Silly question time again, sorry I know this should be obvious but.

I have read quite a few posts where people have had to have an endoscopy done before surgery.

What's it for.

I obviously didn't have one before my bypass so was wondering why many of you did have one done.

Thanks

Paul

An Endoscopy is where they pass a camera down into your stomach to see if there is anything that needs sorting before your bypass. ie an ulcer or a bacterial infection. Once you have had your bypass, your stomach can no longer be reached orally so anything that needs sorting is usually checked and sorted while they can do it relatively easy orally rather than major stomach surgery further down the line. Its a relatively easy procedure, just a little uncomfortable but it usually makes people quite anxious beforehand. Its over within a few minutes and most people say it was much easier than they had envisaged.
