I am half way through my pre op diet and I have just eaten a sausage bap because I had the shakes will this affect it

The pre op diet is to ensure that your liver is in perfect order for the op, rather than weight loss. Straying outside the guidelines could impact on this. However, I'm sure that others may have strayed and still had the op.

My advice is to move on from this, don't beat yourself up, but don't do it again. Your whole future is not worth the gamble of a sausage bap is it? Also, the pre op diet is manageable, we've all done it and gone through a variety of side effects. As far as I am aware, shakes or a headache during this phase will not kill you.

So, get back, more determined and work through it. You WILL be successful.

You have to put a lot of effort into the pre-op diet
I think it takes steely determination to succeed...
I found it the hardest part of the whole process, I stuck to the 3 week liquids only diet, just about, and you do deserve a gold medal at the end of it..
its like an indurance test:sigh:

OK..so all that said, best foot forward head down and knuckle under..
Hope all will be well for you

I have dreamt about food all week as I am on the milk and jelly pre op, try to get over this little blip as others will have had the odd stumble, good luck .

Apparently, if we have a high fat high sugar diet (which overweight people do) our liver stores Glycogen which makes the liver hard and large. The liver has to be moved to access the stomach and if it is too large there may be complications such as the liver splitting or bleeding and the surgeon may have to convert to open surgery. The pre-op diet reduces the glycogen stores but it is very easy to fall off the wagon and put all your glycogen stores back very quickly and make your liver large again.

My advice to you would be to put it behind you and move on. You have done very well to stick to the diet for 3 weeks. The pre-op diet is brutal and I am finding mine very difficult to follow. Advice from a fellow WLS-er is to have a drink of milk if you are feeling very hungry and light headed. I found this has worked for me.

GOOD LUCK xxx
