today i got called into the doctors as my husband wrote another letter.
they are refering me to salford aswell to see if they have a shorter list.
i am also being refered for sleep apnea test...
the doctor seems to think i may have acid reflux so i am now on medication but if it carries on they will refer me...thing is i dont get it all the time.
it was a female doctor i seen this time and she says its not bad but not great what the pct has said and that they are better at giving funding as going back a couple of years hey werent giving it like now.
so thats my news i have to tell feeling better today but while im on a list i will keep the letter going i dont want them to forget me lol lol.
have a great weekend all:):):D

Its acid coming up you throat very nasty burns the hell out of me Sarah

Heartburn. Heartburn is the primary symptom of GERD. It is a burning sensation that radiates up from the stomach to the chest and throat. Heartburn is most likely to occur in connection with the following activities:

  • After a heavy meal.
  • Bending over.
  • Lifting.
  • Lying down, particularly on the back.
According to one study, nearly three-quarters of patients with frequent GERD symptoms experience them at night. Patients with nighttime GERD also tend to experience more severe pain than those whose symptoms occur at other times. One study found that patients with night-time pain reported levels of severity that were similar to those reported in angina and congestive heart failure.

Hi Margaret

Am I right in thinking that acid reflux, gerd and barrat's oesophagus are all obesity related conditions and can aid your request for WLS?

~hugs~

Hi there :)

These conditions are not all obesity related conditions, although obesity can cause acid reflux. Acid reflux can be caused by a number of different factors, including smoking, obesity, diet. Most people who suffer with acid reflux alone often find that if they modify their diet and exclude fatty foods, citrus etc there symptoms improve or go completely. Also there are effective medications to supress symptoms.

GERD is a disorder that people of all shapes and sizes suffer from and changes in diet, or losing weight or giving up smoking has little or no effect on the symptoms. Sufferers of this condition are affected by it chronically 24/7. Sometimes medication can allieviate it a little but the most effective treatment for it is an operation.

If a person suffers from time to time with acid reflux, as unpleasant as it is, it is unlikely to be GERD.

As far as wls goes, people who suffer with acid reflux are likely to see an improvement after surgery. Unless the condition has been fully investigated and lots of specific tests carried out to ascertain the cause ie whether it is GERD or diet and lifestyle related it cannot really be used as evidence that you need wl surgery. Having said that it is important to let your surgeon know of all known health problems as it is all part of a bigger picture.
