Feeling low today

New Beginnings

I'm coming to the end of my soft food stage and trying to introduce normal foods but I keep getting pressure from my pouch after just 2 teaspoons. If it's not pressure then it's really bad wind where I keep burping. Had 2 teaspoons of fish for supper and the burping started within minutes and I still have it 2 hours on. When I spoke to my dietician a few weeks ago I mentioned that I wasn't able to get in the 60 grams if protein a day let alone all the water and juices etc. She told me not to worry but I am. In the last 4 weeks I've lost 3 stone and I feel shattered all the time which I'm sure it's linked to the little amount I'm eating. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased at the weight loss but should it be this much so soon? I just want to get back on an even keel. Sorry for the moan guys, just feel I needed to off load to someone!

It will get better i promise, Fish can be quite difficult at first, I appreciate that you have lost a vast amount of weight in such a short time and understand you feel lethargic, but it does become easier. Keep your chin up love xx

Hi

Sorry to feel you're feeling low x

I have no answers but am sure you will get lots of good advice x

Hi i should be on the next stage of food but can't get any further than lumps. they said it will take time so please don't worry and enjoy the fact you've lost 3 stone. xx

I found fish and eggs a struggle to start with, and this from someone who could nibble bread a couple of weeks out. Try minced beef, turkey, chicken with gravy or some such to help it go down. But to be honest when you first start on solids it's amazing how your pouch feels it. I think i can eat well but there are times when i put meat on my plate (as in 100g chicken - am at weight watchers so measure everything) and i struggle to get half way through it when i've had a little veg as well. Give me a 2 slice sandwich and it goes down no sweat. Some things fill us more than others is what i'm saying. Try a bit of fish in sauce/pie job and see if that's any easier....

Most of all don't think your doing something wrong, try and eat it as slow and in as small a bite as you can and chew it to death this might help with the wind. Otherwise get some deflatine if it persists. As for the tiredness ask your gp to test your B12 levels as we need this topping up every 3 months via injection.

hope this helps xx

Thanks everyone for your support. Hubby keeps telling me not to keep beating myself up over it and it will get better. When i read other threads everyone is doing so well post operatively. I've also just read through my post op paperwork from hospital again, it does mention sickness and bloating from certain foods but to stop and then try again a week later. I'm due to return to work in just over a week and I'm getting worried that I won't have the energy to keep up as i work in a school. Feels like I'm living on weetabix, milk and yoghurts as they are the only things I can get down without too much pressure!

Are u taking your supplements hun?

Yes, I'm taking Forceval plus an additional iron and calcium tablet. I've hardly eaten at all today just 1 weetabix and 200 mls of skimmed milk plus some fruit juice. Tummy area under my left boob feels tender. I called the hospital today for some advice and they have booked an X-ray/aniseed drink for tomorrow.. They've asked me to bring a sandwich to eat whilst the X-ray is in progress. I've told them I'm concerned about that as i can't seem to tolerate heavy food. They just told me to worry. So hopefully I'll know more tomorrow! Wish me luck.

Hiya hun, yes went to hospital today and I had to take mouthfuls of this thick chalky liquid and stand in front of an X-ray machine. After taking each mouthful I had to tell him when I was feeling pressure and he recorded some measurements. They also asked me to take a sandwich to see how that went down. I must admit by the time I'd had half a glass of this liquid I wasn't keen to start eating bread as I haven't eaten bread in 3 months now and was worried it would stick! Fortunately i just had to take a small bite and swallow it with this chalky liquid. The only think the doctor said was he could see things were moving through okay but not as fast as usual. He advised to take small sips of water while I'm eating to ease it through which seems to go against my dietician/surgeons advice postoperatively. Go figure that out!!!!! Anyways at least now this slowness explains why I never feel hungry except when I wake up in the morning and my stomach is empty. After getting dressed X-ray doc said he'd taken about 50 images and that he wanted to look into them further, so now I have another appointment in clinic tomorrow to see what happens next. I tell you though one thing that was spooky today was to see all my insides on this TV screen. Doc showed me my tiny wee pouch, it's amazing to see yourself! Will let you know how tomorrow goes hunny!
