Just wanted to ask anyone who's had a Gastric Bypass when do you start to feel yourself again? I know its early days.. This is my 3rd day after surgery but I feel just sore and aching around my back and tummy. I'm finding it hard to straighten my back as I can feel a pulling sensation. I'm trying to get my walking in but get easily tired. Just wondering when you feel you start to see the light!! Annie x

Hi Annie!! Everybody's different and everyone's recovery is different also. I felt very tired for the first week or two, and couldn't sleep very well on my side or back. By week 3 everything improved dramatically. As you get more nutrition in the better you feel. Keep hydrated. You're doing great x

Remember to take enough pain pills to keep the pain at bay, don't wait till you are in agony to take them, take them before the pain is very noticeable and keep gently stretching your arms and your ribcage to disperse the trapped air.

Hello, Im 3 weeks post op and it started to get better for me after 2 weeks being at home. I was sleeping alot and i had problems going to the toilet which was painful in it's self. I had no pain from the op but then again i was taking painkiller for a week just in case. Yesterday was the first day that i had really been out and i had abit of a turn, i got very dizzy and thought that i would faint so i had to grab my husband and he found me a seat and sat me down. he went and got me some water and some thin slices of chicken (bless him) but i had eaten on the morning my weetabix and a yoghurt so i don't think it was coz i was hungry. maybe the warm weather..who knows! so my advice is don't rush to do things or hurry back to work.

Hi Annie . . . I am just about 2 week post OPEN RNY and feel fantastic . . . YES, the first few days were awful and if I could have turned the clock back I would have without hesitation but by day 5 I was feeling on the mend, by day 6 having sex and by day 7 going for walks around the park . . . Please girn and bear it for just a few more days xx

lol kevin you're unstoppable.

Hi - hope you are starting to feel better.

I felt achy and depressed for a week. I was really emotional. I was also really cold all the time for some reason, which didn't help!

Take it easy and try to rest as much as you can. I went back to work after 2 weeks and found myself really tired in the evenings.

Gosh do I feel better.. The other day I would have graded myself at a 2 out of 10 but today I feel like a 6! Phew what a relief!!! The other day someone respond to my thread and put that they had thoughts of 'oh my god what have I done to myself' a few days out of surgery and that was exactly how I felt. That day I felt so low, looking back though I hadn't eaten anything for days. Now the protein shakes have kicked in I'm feeling better every day. I also saw a thread from someone who had trouble getting their fluids in and were sucking on ice cubes, that has worked so well for me. My hubby has been fantastic too, a real star helping me to remember to take my meds and making all the smoothies etc. But also thank you to everyone who had made me feel so welcome to this site in the short time I've been here. It's been so useful to hear from people who are going through this life changing path. Thank you all. Annie x
