I've been referred to the bariatric surgery team by my GP and have my assessment appointment with the surgeon, specialist nurse and dietician this coming Wednesday. I'm 100% sure that I want Gastric Bypass surgery having battled with my weight since childhood. However I'm still unsure about how the funding side of things works.
I saw the consultant two weeks ago, who advised that I fit the NICE criteria for surgery and that dependent upon the results of my assessment and the final decision of the bariactric team panel, I could have the OP before the end of this year. However he would need check the criteria for my PCT which is Brent, for funding.
I'm terrified that I may be turned down for the op because my PCT may not fund it.:wave_cry: I've done a lot of research and realise that its very much a postcode lottery when it comes to funding for bariatric surgery. I've searched for info relating to Brent but have found that they are still to provide info on their guidelines for funding. I have my fingers tightly crossed. Anyone else in the same predicament?
