What exactly is it about fizzy drinks that we are not allowed them. And is it for life or just till ur new tummy heals? I have been reading a lot of mixed reviews
I was told no fizzy drinks of any kind due to the bubbles causing havoc in a small tummy something to do with the gassy part of it
I have read that some people shake the fizz out and have it flat I wont lie I had a sip of cola during Christmas (first time in over a year) and it made me feel a tad funny im guessing it was the sugar content so I wont be trying that again
I'm not entirely clear on the reasons but for a sleever I think it might have something to do with stretching the stomach. Also, the bubbles will fill you up when you actually need nutrients.
I used to drink Pepsi Max - although not to excess. I do miss it. But most of all I miss gin & tonic. Have tried other mixers, but it's just not the same - hence the massive reduction in my alcohol intake.
1) can stretch the stomach.
2) can confuse hunger signals as your stomach will be full of bubbles.
3) Stops you getting necessary fluid as caffeine in fizzies can act as a diuretic.
4) Hurts like nobodies business.
5) For some reason, even diet drinks seem to affect people post op weight loss. i don't know if this is a habit thing, but I keep seeing it.
Oh I had a few vodka and diet coke over xmas and didn't know till a friend said I wasn't allowed fizzy drinks. Have to say it didn't hurt or cause any wind.
I haven't touched a fizzy since my bypass. It says in my providers rules never to drink them and I follow my rules to the letter! Don't miss them at all.
I've had gin and slimline tonic & cider over the Christmas ... Neither caused me any problems at all. I just used a straw to knock some of the fizz out.
I don't miss the fizzy drinks at all to be honest but I'm pleased I can tolorate the occasional fizzy alcoholic one ?
I'm sure you can have them as long as they are diet once you are healed. I'm sure it's like anything really in moderation u should be ok! I loved pepsi max pre op at the moment I'm loving flat Sprite zero
I think the list of complications woulf be if you drank fizzy drinks daily and constantly.
I am 2.5 years post op and I have tried dizzied twice since my op - it still hurts. So I will trust my body as it is fully healed now and clearly doesn't want it. Ultimately make your own decision, but I can guarantee it doesn't help weight loss or maintenance if it becomes a habit and I think these drinks can become addictive.
