I've had a stall for the last few weeks and am just wondering.... Should i be picking weight watchers n similar healthy choice ready meals when i'm not doing a dinner all the family want to eat?

For instance tonight i've had a Sainsburys basics lasagna for tea....

Please be honest and tell me i need to take more attention of packets and nutrition values etc and this is my problem for the stalls...:confused::confused:

The Basics range will be full fat, full sugar and full salt, best to go for Weight Watchers or shop equivalent :)

I know they are dearer but they are much better for you ;):)

Thanks Caz, i thought as much! It wasn't full of flavour to be honest. I think i'll be checking the recipe section out soon x

Hun how much of the ready meal are u eating, i cant see this really contributing to ur stall especially if ur not eating much of it but it could be high in fat and salt which in the long run is not good for us.
Julie hun ur doing so well pls dont worry bout ur stall, as u might remember i have between 5/6 weeks of stalls in the first 3 month and my first stall was day 6 for over 3 weeks, and tbh it really stressed me and and upset me but if u measure urself i bet u have shrunk inches although ur stalling.
I could not eat any meals till about 4 weeks ago and still not to good at eating meals, but i have read that many bypass peeps do have the healthy options/ww meals as they are usually lower in fat and cals but not in all cases.

Am sure some of the experienced peeps will be along soon to offer u some good advice, but pls remember how fantastic u r doing.
Take care darling and have a good weekend xxx

Roche i know the inches are going. Before surgery my jeans were a size 24/26 , today i put on my new stretch jeans from Sainsburys Tu range, size 20! I felt flipping marvellous girl and i do remember your stalls which is what's giving me the faith but i'm also aware i need to be reading packaging more when i don't cook from scratch...

You will be the unrecognisable one lol xx

Julie I've found that ready meals tend to be carb heavy which I'm presuming is a way of keeping the costs down. I was eating a few of them but I've stopped and my stalls seemed to have stopped since I've started making proper meals for myself which are higher in protein and veg. I know it's easier shoving something in the microwave especially if you're trying to cook a meal for the rest of the family but in the end, cooking your own meals means you can control how much fat, salt etc is going into your diet.

I can't say for sure that stopping the ready meals is the reason I've stopped stalling as much (it still does happen occasionally but not as much as I was) but I wouldn't want to risk going through such a demoralising stalling period again.

You need to check the sat fat content and the sugar content of all things Julie. Some ready meals diet or otherwise like Jaxx says are still high in both. Below 5% is the key for fat. You also need to be focusing on high protein. If you can eat it chicken breast is your friend, high protein low fat and fish, shell fish that type of thing. The WW meals don't have masses of protein in some of them.

I also had major stalls when relying on microwavable meals. As soon as I cut them out, I stopped having stalls. Now I make my WLS friendly meals in one morning and freeze them for the week. This way I can control everything that goes into them and I get the protein that has been so key to my weight loss.

I'm agreeing with everyone here. I find I lose more if I don't eat ready meals. I know it's easier sometimes, but if you can get your protein portion and just add a good bit of fresh veggies to it, you will probably be better off. Also, you will benefit from not getting 'hidden salts and sugars' and avoiding excessive carbs. Oh, and of course - drink lots and lots of water! xx

Hi and thanks for the replys, just to confirm i don't 'rely' on ready meals, usually i will cook something as it's a darn sight cheaper to cook it for all of us than do ready meals etc...

These microwave jobs a blue moon meal, and we'll be having no more mooning in our house. Himself can finish them off :) x

the weight watchers microwave meals are only £1 each in iceland, im a bugger for just throwing something in the microwave or frozen food in the oven, but i have been cooking propper meals for the last couple of weeks with fresh meat and veg, you cant beat fresh food can you. iceland was such a convenience because its cheaper but bad for you in the long run.

When looking at the fat percentage in food is it the overall fat or the saturated fat we are supposed to be checking? x

Its the overall fat.

hey hun i use ww meals (like im doing at min) for abit of a boost for my weightloss as nearly all the meals are below 300 calories xx

So far you seem to be doing very well and I notice you have foods that I still dont have, but then again I am a bit of a scary cat.

I just wanted to say that most people I know that had the surgery stalls about four weeks after surgery, so I wouldnt worry about it.

Also, there is a big difference in ready meals. i usually stick to the ones with less than 5% fat and 5% sugar, but will occassionaly go over that if it has alot of protein.

At your stage the weight watcher meals are a very good choice.

Well done in everthing you have achieved so far

Thank you emerging butterfly, i've heard about the stalls just wanted to cover all my bases... :) x
