Ouch!...see if you can get an appointment with your doctor today or with the nurse at your practice...Best be safe because the last thing you need is an infection in an open wound.

Hope it feels better soon.
Take care.

(((hugs)))

Best get it checked for signs of infection. Go to the chemist and get some better dressings it could be you are allergic to that dressing as well. Could they not put some more stitches on the wound that is still open? Good luck hope you feel better soon.

Nurse said it wasn't infected yesterday, and i'm going tomoz to get it redressed, hopefully with something comfier :D:rolleyes:

sorry to hear that, but what about getting some paper stitches from the chemist, that'll close the wound up at least

My advice would be firstly to insist the nurse does a swab for infection, you can't always tell just by looking at a wound if it is infected and sometime that may be the reason its not healing, then I would tell them that you are having problems with the dressing.

I've tried every dressing going because I react so badly to them. At the moment I'm using Sorbsan to pack the wound, Allevyn Adhesive dressings over the Sorbsan then Seaview breathable plastic dressings over that so that I can shower etc but you can guarentee I've pulled them off in my sleep because they irritate so much, much to the district nurses annoyance..lol.

I when I was steralised via a Lap I went to the chemist and got some Mepore adhesive dressings because I had a port wound then playing up, they were quite good because they are not plastic or latex and let the wound breath and stay dry.

One thing I would say is keep it as dry and clean as you possibly can so that it doesn't get infected and its also worth bearing in mind that stomach wounds I'm told are notoriously difficult to heal especially if your losing weight fast.

The fat that is breaking down turns to liquid and is normally absorbed back into the body, unless you have an open wound that is, then it will escape from there until it heals.

How deep is your wound?

I agree with everything Bonita says, my wound didn't close properly as the stitches dissolved. The lower end of the wound was worse, and also a couple of points higher up. Infection was there and the swab came back as MRSA. It's important to check because only certain antibiotics work on that infection so if they give you the wrong sort it won't heal and the infection gets more of a hold. If it is infected, keep it covered. x x

Good news!!Went to the docs and the wound is more or less healed, and have got more dressings to put on if this new waterproof one comes off in shower:DGoing back to see nurse on tues to be safe:D
Bonita I feel like a proper drama queen when I read what you've been through hun.Mine is nothing in comparison, and hope you heal very soon x

Don't be daft, when mine first started bleeding in the first place it was through a very tiny hole. Looking at it at that time nobody could have guessed how serious things were so you just can't take chances, you have after all just had major surgery so better safe than sorry.
