Gastric band removal

hello,

i need some advice as i'm really struggling!

over the past year my band has got tighter and tighter, to the point where i only had 2.2ml in. i'm now 9 weeks pregnant and went to get the last of the fluid out. they could only get 1ml out and i'm still struggling massively with food and drink :(

my provider doesn't want to xray me due to my pregnancy, i'm going to go to a+e tomorrow to see if they can help.

would the nhs ever position a band if it was an obvious slip, or would they just remove it?

i've lost 70lbs with the band and feel so healthy, but i hate that it's now making me ill.

I'm afraid I don't know the answers but good luck with baby and band X

Hi ki ki
I had my band repositioned on the NHS as it was classed as a medical necessity I had a pouch which eventually caused a slip and I had awful reflux unfortunately I then went onto develop oesophagul dilation and have just had it removed and converted to a sleeve which I ended up having to go privately for as the only further funding the NHS would give was to have it removed as in my area your bmi has to be 40+ to qualify for revision surgery.
Hope the pregnancy goes well and I'm here if I can be of any help to you Xx

thank you for the advice! it's very useful to know that in some circumstances the nhs can reposition and not just remove - was yours nhs to begin with or private?

i went to a+e yesterday as i was really struggling with fluids. the surgeons there wanted the doctor to xray me before they saw me, but he didn't want to do that with me being pregnant!

i feel a bit like i'm going from pillar to post, with my provider only giving information about the band and no help with anything pregnancy related. similarly my gp and the hospital don't know enough about the band to help. i feel like no-one can help me and all i want is to make sure i'm eating enough to keep my baby healthy :(

i can't remember the last time i had a proper meal and wasn't constantly burping / having radiating back and diaphragm pain

Hi
What a worry mine was private originally and I too went from pillar to post until I eventually got referred to an NHS bariatric team if you have a look on the beginning of my diary it gives you the full story. It Would obviously be ideal if you could have the barium swallow X-ray but I don't know if this is safe for your baby? Have they tried again to see if they can get anymore fluid out as some can get stuck in the tubing? What are they suggesting to do next x

I've just read your diary and funnily enough was also banded by Mr Halstead with THG! It sounds like you've been through a lot, I hope your sleeve is working our for you?

I went to my GP today who has referred for a surgical assessment at the same hospital I went to on Sunday!

My nurse at THG also managed to get out another 0.2ml from the band yesterday which has made fluids a little easier at least.

Hoping to move forward after seeing a surgeon today...!

Hi Ki Ki
Thanks for reading my diary I have unfortunately come across several on here who have been banded my the same surgeon and had problems keep me updated with what they say
Good luck x

Hi My private band was slightly slipped and for 2 years NHS would not do anthing, After a major slip 2 weeks ago they have removed in an emergency and doing revision to a bypass.

Hi Ki ki. Hope you are feeling better. I had my band withTHG. From my experience I would not recommend the band. I had a revision three weeks ago to a sleeve. Had it done pvtly. THG had told me around £5000 for removal. Hope everything works out well for you.

It will depend on your NHS trust too, in mine they would not assist with reposition or removal or an help despite NHS surgeries causing further issues and the reason they wouldn't is because my band was fitted privatelY.

I've just paid to revise from band to MGB bug I do hope you get sorted.
